more deaths from heat occurred to

since June 14, when the heat wave
first struck the city. The thermom

was a half holiday probably saved

Small Sale of Fireworks Indicates
Sano and Safe Observance Cele
brations at Jacksonville, Woodvilta
and Butte Falls Many Picnics
and Fishing Trips Planned.
Most Medford people arc planning
a snno and safe fourth. The sale
of fireworks has been small and
there will bo comparative quiet as
compared with previous years. Cel
ebrations arc to bo held at Jackson
ville, Woodvillc and Butte Falls, and
all of these will ho largely attended
from Medford and other valley
towns.
Jacksonville has prepared for tho
most elaborate of the celebrations.
The city is well decorated and the
usual program of baseball and ath
letics will bo carried out. Hon C
M. McArthur of Portland will be
the orator of tho day. Fireworks
will make the night brilliant.
Woodville promises all a gay time
at her celebration. The Central Point
band will furnish the music and there
will bo baseball and other features.
Butto Falls offers much the same
program.
Many Medford people will spend
the day on tho Rogue and other
strenms picnicking nnd fishing. Quite
a number hnvo gone tn Colcstine,
while peroral trips to Crater Lake
will bo undertaken.
