Assures His Patrons That Athon
Stock Company Is Good and Urges
Mcdford Folks to Give Them a
Tryout Monday.
To My Patrens:
Just a word as to the Athon Stock
company that opens nt tho Medford
theater Monday night for tho sum
mer season. This company played
a solid year in Portland, coming
there from another year run in Kan
sas City. Tho company has been
strengthened for this engagement.
Now I hae watched them at their
rehearsals hero, seen their artist
painting the scenery, etc., and if I
know anything about the how busi
ness, we've got just about tho slick
est little stock company on the Const.
The company is certainly as good as
the "Lion and the House" company
that you liked so well.
Now you know, a manager isn't
going to play a losing game very
long, and if the business here isn't
right, tho company wonn't stay. I
know you all want some good sum
mer amusement here, so come out
once anyhow. Como Monday night
aud give the show a Mcdford welcome,
and if it isn't what I toll you, your
money is nt the box office for you.

SAN FKANCISCO, Cal., Juno 11.
Governor Gillotto todny is in re

Tlio Letter's Text.
Whito's letter, dated June 10, was
as follews:
"Somo timo ngo I addressed a tele
gram to you asking that you take the
necessary steps to prevent tho so
callcd Johnson-Jeffries fight from
taking place in the eitj1 and county
of San Francisco on tho Fourth of
July, 1910, and I desire to say with
reference to that event that if it is
to bo carried out as advertised in
the newspapers, it will certainly be
against the laws of tho stato of Coli
do, I'll do without tnlking to any
that you, as governor of this sttae,
refer the mntter to the attorney gen
eral, requesting him to take such
steps as will be necessno to cuforco
the law. Tho district attorney of tho
city and county of San Fruncisco
hns already declared that ho will not
interfere, and it seems to mo fitting
that the executive power of the state
should be exerted to tho end that the
laws inay be enforced."
Tho letter is regarded hero by law
yers as n cleverly devised opportu
nity for the governor to avoid re
sponsibility for any criticism or trou
ble that might precede or follow the
figbt.
