JEFFRIES VISITS
FRISCO
TONIGHT
In regard to the rural free deliv
ery route from Medford to Eagle
Point, which has been under discus
sion for some time, and which was
recently gone over by a government
inspector, Senator George A. Cham
bcrluin writes as follows to the Mail
Tribune:
"I beg to acknowledge receipt of
your favor of tho 9th instant. In
reply, permit me to say that I im
mediately called the attention of the
fourth assistant postmaster-general
to the petition for rural free delivery
route No. 2, from Medford, Or.,
"which had been approved by the
postoffice inspector, designated to
investigate the matter, and recom
mended that tho proposed route be
established immediately. The as
sistant postmaster-general promised
to give the matter his immediate at
tention and advise me by letter as
to the action of the department in
the premises. In accordance with
his promise, ho writes mo today as
follows :
"'You aro advised that, while a
favorable report on tho route in
question has beon received, owing to
the existing condition of tho finances
of tho government and the conse
quent necessity for strict economy in
all branches of tho public service, it
is deemed advisable, after cureful
consideration, to defer further in
stallation of rural delivery for tho
present, except where necessary to
inuintuin tho efficeincy of the sorvico
in oiieration or whoro tho establish
ment of now service seems impera
tively required to meot demands
which cannot be mot by means of ex
isting facilities.'
"In view of this report, I am
afraid thut there is little or no
chance of obtaining favorable action
by tho department in tho matter at
this time. You may rest assured,
however,, that I will not discontinue
my efforts to get favorable action In
tho ninttcr, and after tho lapse of a
reasonable timo I will again cnll the
attention of tho department to the
subject."

Mr. Wilmeroth first went to Wen-

Colo.nol Ernest Hofor, editor of the

loyal and consistent boosters, gave
voice to mi important truth iu his
address in this city last night whim
ho said: "Tho way to build up Dallas
is to pntronizo Dallas people" This
motto Iiiih appeared nt tho head of
tho Observer's editorial column for
18 years, and has Horved as a text
for a hundred columns of editorials
iu this newspaper. Tho way to build
up n town is to patronize tho mer
chants and muuufncturcrri who do
business in the town, heading away
for only such articles of necessity as
cannot bo found iu tho homo mar
kets. As a rule, there is no real ex
cuse for pursuing this latter course,
for the very good reason that tho
homo merchants are usually not only
willing but glad to procure for their
customers any needed article not
carried iu stock, nnd to supply it at
a prico ns roaHonnlilo as coidd bo ob
tained clsowhero. Kvory dollar spent
with your homo morchaut helps to
build up your own town nnd mako
your own proporty more valuable,
while ovorv dollar scut awav from
homo for goods impoverishes your
own town just thut much, whilo en
riching some outside community.
