committee to wait upon John II. Al

road, offering the club's honrty co

that a former high government offi
cial tried to tamper with the Oregon
legislature by trading federal offices
for rotos woremade in the senate to
day by Senator Jonathan Bourne of
Oregon.
Bourne discussed the success of
real popular rule in Oregon. One of
the most severe tests, he said, came
when the people elected a republican
legislature, which later endorsed
Chamberlain, a democrat, for the
United States senate. . Bourne de
clared that 51 out of 90 members of
the. legislature had been pledged to
carry out the tna'ndate of the voters.
