CENTRAL POINT NEWSLETTER
To tho Editor:
In j'our account of the Commer
cial club's high jinks that "didn't
jinks," and from conversation with
different members of the club, it
seems to be tho impression that the
fizzle was entirely due to my ab
sence. While in a sense this is very
flattering, yet it places me in a false
position.
il don't think it is necessary to re
'ler to the fact that at every pre
vious function of tho club I have al
ways freely and pladly Riven my
services and on several occasions
tho freo uso of the theater as well.
But this timo I received no intima
tion from Mr. Klum, Mr. Andrews or
any other mombor of tho committee,
-that I was expected to tako part un
til 0 o'clock in the evening just be
fore tho "doings." My orchestra had
been engaged for two weeks for a
banquet and reception, so of course
it was impossible for mo to attend
Ihe olub meeting oven as a spectator.
And ns to "all tho other principals
boing presont," I have it on their own
personal assurance that not only
were they not present, but each and
every one of them say they were not
inotified, invited or asked in any way
to tako a part before 0 o'clock Wed
nesday evening. So far from having
"my dates mixed," I didn't know
Lad a date.
I have too many of my own short
comings to answer for that I can't
assume tho blamo for tho failure of
tho club's entertainment committee to
make good.
In closing, I wish to say that in tho
future ns well as the past my serv
ices aro at tho disposal of the Com
morcial club in any way it may see
fit to use them, but I'm not a mind
reader you must notify mo if you
want me. CIIAS. D. IiAtSHIHiQ.
To get tho host available stenog
rapher is worth some want advertis
Incr and would bo ovon if want ad
vortising woro tho costliect, instead
ot tho choapost, thing in town.

L. C. Davis and wife of Ashland

ents, Dr. and Mrs. E. Davis, of this
city. Mrs. Dans will go from hero

fore returning to Ashland.

pointed depot agent, arrived last
night and will take charge of the
company's business hero immediate
ly. He will move his family, con
sisting of wife and one child, here
from Woodburn, ns soon as a suit
able house can be rented.
Young Robert Pillsbury, one of
Central Point's amateur baseball
players, received almost a knockout
blow last Friday afternoon while
acting as catcher in a practice game.
IIo caught the ball in the eye and
will wear mourning on that sido of
his fuco for somo timo to come.
Mrs. E. Davis, Mrs. W. R. Owen
and Miss Paino attended the Chris
tian Scientist lecture at Ashland on
Froday evening. Tho lecturer was
Bliss Knapp of Boston, a noted ad
herent of that denomination.
Mrs. J. D. Williams of this city
was the victim of something re
sembling ptomaine poisoning on Wed
nesday night. She was taken des
perately ill shortly after the evening
meal and a physician was hurriedly
sent for, but, as luck would have it,
both physicians were out of town. As
her illness increased alarmingly ev
ery moment, it was decided to send
outside for medical assistance, and
in tho meantime medicine was ob
tained from tho drug store, which,
after a short timo, relieved her suf
fering, and it was found not neces
sary to send for medical help. Ev
ery symptom pointed to ptomaine
poisoning, but as Mrs. Williams had
partaken of no canned food, her
friends cannot account for tho pe
culiar illness. She is at present
somewhat weak, but otherwiso com
fortable.
D. H. Mordaunt of Selraa, Ala., is

daunt, of this city for a few weeks.

at Woodville, will speak in tho Chris
tian church on Sunday morning, May
1, at 11 o'clock.
Tho Oregon Presbytery has ar
ranged for denominational sen-ices

will in all probability bo the man
who will servo this town. Just whore
regular son-ices will bo held is a
matter yet to bo determined by the
locnl society.
Roses and sweet peas galore are
beginning to brighten the lawns and
gardens of our local floriculturists.
Wo shall certainly have enough flow
ers from gardens in our midst to
make a bravo showing at our coming
flower carnival. Some roses are In

at any contest.
