Haruoy county, I manage tho prop
erties of tho Harney alloy Dovclop-
mcnt company.
"On this property is over 80,000
acres of worthless tide swamp, which
I thought it would bo good to drain
for future farms when tho railroads
came and tho cattle ranches could
bo broken up into farms and homes.
To drain (his great swamp I pur
suadod tho owuors to lot mo dig up
an old dredgo nud go to work, To
run tho dredgo I had to havo fuel.
I contracted with my noighbora for
juuipor fuel from tho hills, but had
nothing to do with tho cutting. 1
want to bo porfectly frank and snv

juuipor has never boon classed as
timbor nud has always boon oonsid-

so, if I had known that tho men I

thought nothing of it.
