SALEM, Or., Feb. 20. The Carl
ton & Const Railroad company, with
a capitalization of ;?o00,000, has fil
ed articles of incorporation with the
secretary of state here. It is pro
posed to build the road from Carl
ton west through Yamhill ami Tilla
mook counties, touching at a point
on the Pacific coast called Fairdale.
The road will be operated by steam
nnd the corporation is granted full
powers in all matters necessary for
carrying out the project.
The incorporators of the Carlton
fc Const railroad have also filed ar
ticles of incoriHtration for the Carl
ton Lumber company, tvith a capital
stock of $200,000.
It is understood the new enter
prise will take over the Carlton
Lumber compnny, a large concern,
owning several mills now in opera
tion. The men who nro Inunchitu;
these projects are W. D. Dennis,
Fred Russell and S. B. Linthicum.

Death of Jasper R. Dennis.
Jasper R. Dennis, one of the early
settlers of Southern Oregon, died at
the residence of his daughter, Mrs.
It. P. Anderson, at the corner of
Tenth street and Central avenue,
Friday evening, aged 76 years, ,8
months and 21 days.
Mr. Dennis was one of the pion
eers of Southern Oregon.
Tho funeral will take place this
afternoon at 2:30. Services at the
late residenco will be held by Rev.
S. March. The interment will be
made in Odd Fellows' cemetery.

Death of Rev. James Kelso.
Rev. James Kelso, who has been
a resident of this city for several
years, died at his home on South
Riverside avenue, Fridny, February
25, in the 77th year of his age.
Mr. Kelso was a native of Penn
sylvania and was a veteran of the
civil war.
Funeral services will bo held at the
M. E. church Sunday, February 27,
at 2:30 o'clock p. m., Rev. L. F.
Belknap officiating.
The interment will bo made in
Odd Fellows cemetery, tho services
at the grave being under the auspices
of Chester A. Arthur Post, No. 47,
