loarnod authoritatively today that
GIfford Pinchot, former chief forest
er of the government, has been select
ed to succeed Dr. Charles Elliott as
president of the National Conserva
tion association.
It is understood that Pinchot Is
holding, declaring that he should not
take the office until nfter the con
gressional Investigation Into the Pln-chot-Balllnger
controversy.
His friends, however, aro urging
him to accopt, and thoy aro confident
that they can Induce him to take tho
office.

ciation will meet next week. The
