alleged to havo stated that his ca

forest states follow with lesser
amounts.
"Of the timber cut under sales,
Montana furnished nearly 86,000,000
freot or twenty-four per cent; Colo
rado 44,000,000 feet, or thirteen per
cent; California 39,000,000 feot, or
eleven per cent; and Idaho 35,000,
?00 feet, or ten per cent. Theso
amounts correspond to tho following
per centages of the estimated stand
of national forest timber in each
state: For Montana, three-tenths of
one por cent; for Colorado, four
tenths of ono per cent; for California,
four one-huadredlhs of one per cent;
for Idaho, one-tenth of ono per cent.
In other words, the cutting is far
within tho growth capacity of the
forests."
