Rev. Wm. Lucas, the new rector of
St. Mark's Episcopal 'church, has
shown his faith in the future of
Medford and the Rogue river valley
by investing in rcsideneo property
in this city.
Mr. Lucas has purchased part of
the II. C. .Kentner property at tho
comer of Laurel and Tenth streets,
the site of the building burned a
short time ago and will at ouco
connuenco the erection of a residence
thereon.
When Mr. Lucas came to the Med
ford charge ho was undecided as to
whether he would remain here or not.
His Michigan congregation refused
to release him unconditionally, but
gave him leave of absence for several
months, so that he might niako up
his mind as to the desirability of n
change. The fact that he has start
ed work toward milking a permanent
home here indicates that his decis
ion has been made.
Re,v. Mr. Lucas has niado friends,
many of them, not only in his congre

MODOC RESIDENTS
WAKEN YEARS LATE
KLAMATII FALLS, Or., Dec. 22
After several years of apparent
lethargy, it bus been discovered by
the authorities of Modoc county, Cal.,
that there is some 30,000 acres of
laud within that county that can bo
irrigated from Clear Lake. Clear
Lake is the reservoir for tho Upper
Klnmath project and will supply wat
er for approximately C0,000 acres of
Oregon land under tho Upper Klara
nth project. It is the intention of tho
Californinns to muko an attempt to
hnvo tho waters of Clear Luke di
verted from the Klamath project. The
matter is not taken seriously by
many of the land owners undor tho
Klnmath project. In tho first place
it is doubted if thoro is so vast an ir
rigable nrca in tho California coun
ty, and in the next plnco it is gener
ally believed that the Klamath pro
ject is too far advanced to bo drop
ped for a problematical undertaking.
If you dont already know, its my
gns lights nnd mantle lamps you havo
been reading so much about lately.
There is bo much talk about them
they must be good. Invostigato. J.

"That remiuds me" mused McCutch-
con, "In my office up the street,
I've gotj everything so handy there,
that workintr is a treat.
I've got labor saving systems nnd
telephones and cool electric laus.
"That reminds me" says McCutcheon
"Wliv should I have all the simps?
With my wife nt home, a strugglin'
with n lot o' handicaps,
n' fussiu' round with smoky lamps
an' gas an' gasoline
An' get tin, all woru out with ped
alling thnt old machine."
"That reminds, me" snys McCutcheon
"my wife s birthday s coram soon
She's lookin' sick nnd weary nnd
slio's getting pale and thin,
I'd like to get her something that'l
help her health to win."
"That reminds me" says McCutcheon
"mv wife's goin' away to visit,
An' I have struck upon a notion that
is not so dusty, is it?
While she's gone I'll wire the house
up from the garret to the ground.
An' we'll have a home electric' time
her birthday comes around.
So Mao got awful busy, while his
frnu was out of town
And blew himself for "everything
electric," money down.
Electrio fixtures, reading lamps, all
gleaming bright and clean,
And flat irons, heaters, chafing dish
and motor run machine.
You should havo seen' the face on
Mrs. Mao when she reached home
And saw her huso electrified and
nnd snied the lovely dome
(That hung within tho dining room)
all beautiful and bright
She could only gaze in rapture at tho
brilliancy of light.
If ever husband made a hit, Mc
Cutcheon was tho boy,
His wife was half hysterical with
happiness and poy.
She tried tho rions and chafing dish
and started up tho fan
And liko a happy child, around her
electric room she ran.
And it is nothing now unusual to hear
the neighbors sav
"Siuco Mrs. Mao got 'lectrified she's
vouneer overv dav."
And, no wonder, for her drudgery
don't take up all tier hie
Like it usod to when McCutcheon had
a non-electric wife.
P. S. Mr. Man-with-nn-unwired-iouho:
Why not mako a hit with
your wife, liko McCutcheon did with
lis?
P. S. Mrs. Ditto: Read tho poem
out loud to him.
