for their owners as fgreat financial (
results as "King Dodo" and the'
wonder is that we have not been
blessed with more frequent visits of
this splendid offering.
In presenting "King Dodo" this
season John Cort is said to have out
classed himself in the carefulness of
its production. The costumes, scen
ery and effects are all new and elab
orate. The cn&t, too, has received
that astute manager's personal atten

ble artists arc among the principals.
The chorus is one of tho many fea

ed tho board to levy a special tax of
i mills at tho mooting hold receutly
for tho maintenance ot tho schoolH
for tho ensuing year. Tho levy cur

'board to Inaugurate, a department of
manual training and of domestic scl

Ashland in tho very frout rank In
this respect and add a Jeaturo to her
public schools that Is rapidly gaining
wound and has undoubtedly come to
stay.
Tho estlnmted expense for tho com
ing yonr is $55,616.0 1 and the esti
mated receipts from i tate and coun
ty are $8000, which left the sunn of
$17,(i3G.01 to be raised by special
tax. The total aloessed values of the
'district being $2.0.00.S13. n levy of
' 6 mills was asked of the taxpayer
by tho board, the explanation lulng
made, however, that If It was desired
to Install manual training and domes
tic science departments it would bo
necossary to make a levy of nt least
another mill, $3000 being estimated
by the hoard as necessary to stnrt
tho work for the first year, $1000
each for two teachers and the remain
der tor equipment. I
The estlmrtes read, a discussion
followed andt a motion was mndo by
J. F. Ro:ho" that an elgtt-mlll tax
bo levied on tho ground that the es-l
tlmate was likely to bo too low. This
motion was seconded by F. W. Moore, '
Senator L. L. Mullt voiced tho only,
opposition heard In tho meeting to
tho adoption of tho new'dopartraents, '
believing that It was of doubtful ex-j
pedlency. Ex-Senator E. V. Carter '
advocated tho adoption ot tho now
departments, but believed that if the
board had estimated 1 mill as enough
for tho work proposed for tho first
year, Its estimate should ctand, and
therefore moved to amend tho motion
and make tho levy 7 mills, which mo
tion was seconded and carried by &
voto of 24 to 2.
