LEADERS TALK
OFjITUATION
3wa Leader Talks With President
Regarding Joe Cannon and
His Standing In
West.
(United Tims Leased "Wlr.)
WASHINGTON, P. C., Nov. 27.
JVirmer Senator Lncey o Iowa, n
strong anti-Cummins man, discussed
with President Taft today tho west
ern politico! situation, especially
with reference to the activities of tho
so-called insurgents and the nth
-tudo of Sneaker Cannon toward
them.
"All efforts to dissatisfy the farm
ere and others who are prospering in
the west by the insurgents will fail,"
he said. "Tho people out in my sec
lion arc thoroughly in accord with
Speaker Cannon and they are living
in an era of prosperity unprecedent
ed in tho history of the middlo wes
tern states.
"Tho Iowa Republicans will rebuke
Senator Dolliver and Cummins, said
Murdoch, representative from Kan
pas. and lendinc insurgent. "We arc
Republicans nnd Cannot cannot read
us out of tho party. We -will be Re
publicans when Cannon is forced to
retire from public life, which will
take place early next spring,
"As soon ns congress opens we will
circulate a petition among all Repub
licans asking for signatures demand
ing of Cannon recognition for a Re
publican to present a resolution re
questing a committee to revise the
louso rules. If wo cannot get a ma
jority of the Republicans to sign
this petition wo will turn to the Dem
ocrats for help. The fight is on and
will be waged to the end."
Speaker Cannon's speech at Kan
sas City, in which he first disclaimed
purpoeo to read the Republican mid
western insurgents out of the party,
later extended to them a vigorous in
vitation to get out, and finally wound
up by declaring they would have to
lie fought jujst as Bryan must bo
bought, is accepted as the definite
taking up of the gauge of battle.
"I do not intend to carry on this
discussion through interviews." said
Senator Cummins
