Tho Andorson ditch has boon the

only all tho waters of tho stroam,
but of practically all tho lands along
it, from tho intako of the lowor water
systom to tho national forest re
serve. Tho Andorson mining ditch wnu
located in 1801. Of recent years it
has been little used for mining pur

brought good returns from tho salo

is thought that tho city can find it
profitnblo to repair it in placos need

WASHINGTON, Nov. C Ormsby
McIIarg, who resigned as assistant
secretary -of commerce and labor, and
who is preparing to depart for New
York to tako up tho practice of law,
has fired a parting broadside at For
ester Pinchot, Commissioner of Cor
porations Herbert Knox Smith and
former President Roosevelt, as well
as all other active supporters of tho
policy of conservation of natural re
sources.
"Tho alleged water power trust is
an absurd myth," doclared McIIarg.
no expressed extreme contempt tor
tho "ultra conservationists" and said
thoy wor'o "immoral." Ho charged
that thoy used misleading statements
and incomploto figures in making
their arguments.
Referring to Pinchot, ho character
ized tho forester as a "trimmer."
Incidentally, ho took issue with
Commissioner Smith, who collected
tho data for Roosovolt's famous spe
cial message on tho water power
trust.
McIIarg suggested that both
Roosevelt and Smith ' 'jumped nt
conclusions" nnd said:
