tral hotel hus not been consummated
as yet. Messrs. Neuber and Arm
strong are figuring on purchasing the

tions for awhile and thon returning

our town. We aro in it.
We learn from authentic sources that
the fair at Roseburg was a fizzle, finan
cially and otherwise. Tho farmers in'
that vicinity as a body refused to ex
hibit their ivarc3, owing to tho fact, ns'
they claimed, lht the fuir was not run
in their interest.

Aa Apology.
Ira Wakefield, of Phoenix, called on
lis this week and told a good story on
himself. Ho was billed to speak al the
People's Party meeting at Central
Point Saturday nisht, but through the
week he lost a day nnd arose Sunday
morning early, thinking it was Satur
day and repairing to his potato field
he pitched iu with the idea of gather
ing his crop before starting for Cen
tral Point. His delusion was short
lived, however, as his wife soon con
vinced him that he Was breaking the
Sabbath. Thus it was that the Central
Pointers waited in vain for the good
speech prepared for them.
Literary Society Organised.
The s-tudents of the Medford Busi
ness College organised a literary socie
ty in tho college rooms, Friday even
ing, Sept. 2:11. The following ollieers
