The overland train which bore the

was five hours late. - The delay was
caused by tho burning of a bridge near
Glondale, Oregon.

dav and reports that the remainder of
the party will return in about eight
days.
In the Sunday closing case from this
city wo stated last week that the cir
cuit court had decided that udgo Wal
ton had no jurisdiction in the premises.
This is erroneous, and we wish to set
the matter right. The circuit court
dismissed the case on motion of the
counsel for the saloon men, so that puts
the parties back to where they were ia
the beginning.
Heppner citizens are rejoicing in the
success of an artesian well for city
water supply. A test was made with a
six-inch pump with a capacity of
250,000 gallons a day. The pump was
started at a 72.000 gallons a day rate,
and then increased to 144,000 gallons,
and at last to 21ti,00Y gallons, and the
well stood the test, to the surprise of
many doubtful persons. This test con
vinced the citizens that the well will
supply water sufficient for Heppner's
demands, though another well may be
sunk to insure a supply equal to any
emergency.

The Besult.
Thos. A. Harris, who was accident
ally shot on the 12th inst., died of his
wounds Thursday evening, Sept. loth,
at G o'clock. He was buried in the
Catholic cemetery at Jacksonville, Rev.
Father Watry conducting the services.
Deceased leaves surviving widow (for
merly Miss Nettie Tice), and infant
child, besidos a daughter of tender
years by a former marriage. He was
universally esteemed as a whole-souled,
genial man, and the untoward accident
resulting in his death is sincerely de
plored. .
