made by the Peoples' party were won
derfu l We lost ground in tha pre
cincts removed from tho center tf; 'Folloiving is nn unofiicial statement of the votes cast in each jirccinct in the county as far as counted up. That some of the figures are in
populatiou." Taking Medford as a cri-' correct there is no doubt, but we give the table as showing as near as possible how tne vote stands up to the hour of going to press. The official
terion of sentiment throughout ihe . count will change the figures materially
ojunty. and Medford is conceded that
honor, the three parties having polled
equal the voty.-and it proves that th
Peoples' party on an averaga is fully
as strong as either tho democrats or
republicans, with a little the best of
the republicans if anything, taking in
to consideration that Jackson county
has been heretofore strongly d ?raocm
tic. If the political strength had been
equally divided between tho old parties
our entire: lick-t would have been
elected as in Josaphing oouti'.y, the
good Lord be prais.-.d. M.ty wa not
feel jubi ant over this sho.ving? Tne
party is only a few months old and so
soon it has come to the fro:it, and with
every sober though '. of thiukiag citizens
its strength will augment r.ccortiing.
All it ne-ds is nn understanding of the
principles enunciated in thj plat
form. -And still another puiot we
wish to make, ts gVeunod trom t:ie re
turns: - Baioro election, republicans
gioaied over figures showing wherein
the Peoples' party was drawing frt m
the democratic raaks, vea to throe
to tho republicans, and consequently
the repubiiear.s w. re certain 10 over
come tho d'en-.oeralie majority and
elect all their ni'n. They mut now
agree w'.t'i us, for figures woi't lie
ym know, that tho third party is about
equally made up of geodiacn wl'owere
once good democrats and good repub
licans, allowing for ci:-cj:nsla:icesf and
conditions. Well, then; we say iu con
clusion, and we are borne out on all
sides, that tho people, tha intelligent
masses, are beginning to hir.k for
themselvjs, and are making use of
their right of suffrage in accordance
with their contciencj and abscrvaccc
of the preheat condition of things.
Our success at this election was good
beyond our reasonable expectations
and we predict at least a state victoey
f .r the third party iu November.

Action Which Has Basulted in the
Official Datermtnation of the
Best Baking Powder.
The act of cwngress authorizing
the examination- of the baking
powders h;is resulted in 11 moet un
precedented compliment to Ihe
Royal Baking Powder. The tests
were made made in the government
labaratory at Washington, and the
official report shows that the Royal
is superior to all others in leaven
ing strength being over 30 per
cent above ' the average. The re
port also shows the purity of the
Royai Powder and the wholesome
ness of its ingredients.
This is probably the highept com
pliment of an official character ever
paid to a proprietary article, though
no more than the great army of
baking powder consumers would
expect in dehalf pf their old friend
and favorite.
The result of the official exami

course, make the Royal tne stand

INSULT TO GRADY'3 MEMORY.
Tha Conduct of Democratic Leaders and

Can it be that or.r people hsvo so soon !
forgotten tho n.)blc worvls tf Grady?
Can it be that our people will sgain bow
to the cry of tho "bloody shirt" howlers?
We do not t l;cve it. Such men an LewU
Gtrard, A. D. CaatUer, W. Y. Atkius-en,
Warren Aikea and a host of other would
lie leaders may howl, but tho peopie will
not be deceived. Tho south, like Grady,
has bnried the bloody shirt, and uo
amount of incendiary speaking or writ
ing can rwrnrect it from iu peaceful
slumbers. These sections arc ouo peo
ple again aid our would bo leaders of
the popgun variety may tear their hair
in rage, but it will be of no avail.
For tweuty-flve years the eplo have
followed these leaders blindly. They
fesked uo question, save, "Is he the nominee:-"
Steadily they have grown poor
er and poorer, and today these same
leaders denounce ns as anarchists, so
cialists and cranks, simply because we
demand our honest rightsdemand sira
plo justice.
We do not bclievo that the people can
be scared into party service by any such
a cry. It is too old, it has been heard
often K'fore nnd now the people v.ill
not heed it. They have been ground to
dust by followiug the lead of the!e
bloody shirt howlers, white the "howl
ers" have held the offices and obtain
financial relief for themselves.
The common people have at last a wak
ened to tho situation and aro determined
to throw off the yoke placed on them by
these bloody shirt politicians. They
havo paid enough tribute to plutocracy,
and hereafter they are determined to
vote and net as free men, as intelligent
citizens of this common conutry.
This old cry will not succeed any more.
The south and tho west have joined
hands for the common good, nnd will
stand shoulder to shoulder at the ballot
box this fall. No cry of itegro supremacy,
of "force bill," will keep tho people from
Etanding by their colors in this fight.
