Spokane, Wash. — W ith the form a
tion here o f the Fruitgrow ers’ Agency,
the problems affecting the profitable
growing and m arketing o f fru it in the
states o f Washington, Oregon, Idaho
and Montana have practically been
solved, according to participating gov
ernment experts.
Organization o f the agency was
effected and articles o f incorporation
prepared as the result o f an all-day
conference between fruitgrow ers, rep
resentatives
of
practically
every
selling agency in the Northwest, and
experts from the department o f A g r i
culture at Washington.
According to an official statement
issued by the government officials, the
Fruitgrow ers’ Agency is:
" A combined organization o f fru it
growers and selling agencies governed
by a board o f control divided equally
between the producers and marketers.
I t is the safety-first branch o f the fru it
industry, involving the grow ers’ pro
tection, assures an orderly control of
upwards o f 75 per cent o f the fru it
tonnage o f the Northwest, and embod
ies the ideals sought for years by the
growers in a mutual selling system
wholly displacing destructive compe
tition by formidable aggressiveness
and the most up-to-date progressive
measures.
" I t provides for every necessity o f
the grow er in assembling, advertising,
marketing, opening new and widening
markets throughout the world, and has
as its basis the individual and collec
tive requirements o f the grow er from
the selling agencies through a uniform
contract around which the entire struc
ture o f the central protective body íb
built.”
“ The plan o f organization and pro
cedure as adopted,” the statement
says, “ was submitted by the depart
ment o f Agriculture, follow in g exten
sive investigation o f the grow ers’
needs by the government officials
through their previous visits in the
different Northwest sections.
It is
the most complete and advanced plan
that has ever been prepared for the
producers o f any perishable industry
in the United States.”
