CARRANZA READY TO QUIT;
ASKS VILLA TO DO SAME
Mexico C ity—In his reply to the pe
titio n o f Francisco V illa’s generals
asking him to resign in favor of F er
nando Iglesias Caldron, and thus avoid
civil war, General Venustiano C arranza
say s:
“ I will gladly take such action if it
is ratified by the general conference;
if not, I will fight reaction and the old
regime, which appears now to be head
ed by Villa, who, it may be, is an un
w ittin g tool in this, as was Orozco in
his fight ag ain st Madero. ”

V illa’s chief to demand the retirem en t
of th e ir leader as comm ander of the
northern division of the arm y, in view
of his, C arranza’s, w illingness to re tire
if the arm y so votes.
The general conference of m ilitary
chiefs will be held soon when the
resignation of Gerneal C arranza will
be considered, although but 26 gen

here th a t fu rth e r fighting is unlikely.
General C arran za’s a ttitu d e of abne

N ew berg—J u s t w est of N ew berg are
the famous red hills of Dundee, where
the Italian prune and the English wal

For many m iles the

it is called the P e tite , and does not at-

A tr ip through some of the prune
orchards in the Dundee d istrict was
made recently. There has been a g en
