The cause of the explosion is more
or less shrouded in m ystery. [W hat is
considered as the only p lausible e x ­
planation is the pro b ab ility of w a te r
in the boiler being low and cold w a te r
turn ed in, resu ltin g in th e explosion.
Mr. E a st had gone into th e base­
m ent, a ttra c te d by risin g steam , and
it is th o u g h t he may have turned the
cold w a te r into th e boiler.
