LOCAL NEWS
Mr. and Mrs. Silas Beach, of Port
land, arrived In Lexington Saturday
evening. Mr. Beach is a brother of
our fellow townsman, E. R. Beach,
and has come to make an extended
visit with relatives and old friends in
hopes of benefitting his health. Mr.
Mr. and Mrs. Beach left Monday with
Mrs. Karl Beach for a long stay at her
homestead in the mountains,
Mrs. W. G. Scott and daughter,

Is very grateful to Mrs. Scott for our

The Editor of The Wheatfield was
greatly surprised last Thursday to re
ceive a commission signed by Gov.
Chamberlain, appointing us as one of
. the delegates to represent the state of
Oregon at the National Irrigation Con
gress which meets at Sacremento,
September 2. Morrow county has
been well remembered having eight
.delegates to this meeting.
"Oh," exclaimed Mrs. De Collitay,
"all the trunks are packed and shipped
and I forgot to put In my bathing suit".
"Never mind, dear," replied her hus
band, "fortunately I've sworn off
smoking". "Eh ? What has that to
do with it? " "Why, you can pack
your bathing suit in my cigar case."
A newspaper man is an enemy to
bulletin board advertising on general
principals, but there are occasions
when a bulletin board may bring better
results than a paper. The editor of a
paper in Missouri, remarked not long
ago that he had observed one in front
of a store in his city which, read, "B
4 U Buy Pants Come in and See
Ours." He went in and there was
not a confounded man in the store
(they were all females) so he bought
a fan and walked out.
