SENTENCE SERMONS
Ey Henry F. Cope.
We are to be what we are today.
A little duty cures a lot of doubt.
.. The truth that dees not liberate you
enclaves you
That alone Is learning which Issues
in life.
Who gives a little help finds a large
piece of heaven.
The best protest against dirt is that
which is made with a broom.
Prayer b away from anxiety, but
not from activity.
Bearing the cross should not give
you a cross bearing.
You cannot know the kingdom of
heaven if you have forgotten how to be
happy.1
A narrow man Is the one who most
easily is twisted crooked.
The piety that pulls down your face
was prepared In the pit.
Hare's ip often Is the name that
happiness puts on her door.
The church that does not Invest in
humanity has no dividends awaiting It
in heaven.
There is more spirtuality in a littlle
song than in a week's sighing.
It takes more than a sisterly way to
make a saint of a man.
It's a profitless task trying to lay up
other people's treasures In heaven.

. The First loe Cream.
The glory of introducing ice
cream to America is one which, in
the minds of the younger element
at leaet, would rival any of the pre
tensions of Christopher Columbus,
Sir Walter Raleigh, Fulton, Howe
or Edison. It was Mme. Delacroix
to whom Americans are indebted
for the beginning of the notorious
passion for "cool interiors." Her
portrait, one of St. Memin's mezzo
tints of early American notables,
shows her to have been a handsome
and forceful character well worthy
to go down the long corridors of
fame as the mother of ice1 cream
and the stepmother of the ice cream
soda industry. Apptoton's Maga

His Part
"Oh, ye-es," remarked Ketchley
in a sell satisfied way, "Lulu and I
will rtart out in married life nnder
very favorable circumstances. Her
mother gives us a neat little home,
her father furnishes it, and her
Uncle De Long has given a carriage
and pair. Besides, Lulu has a snug
income in her own name."
"What part do you furnish?"
"Well principally the name
principally the name." London'
Standard.
