The people of Lexington were great
ly surprised last Monday morning' to
find a sign reading, "Going Out of
Eusiness", on the front of Leach
Bros' store. W. E. Leach, manager
of the large store was seen by the
Wheatfield man and was informed
that it was the intention of the firm to
go out of business. Mr. Leach has
been in activj business in Lexington
the past ten years, part of the time
under the firm name of Nichols &
Leach, afterwards the interests of -Jvir.
Nichols was p.rc '.ased and the styl
was changed to Leach Bros'. We
believe that we voice the sentiments
of everyone in saying that we regret
very much that this firm has decided
to close out their stock and quit busi
ness, yet we hope that the Leach
Brothers may prosper vherever they
may dtcide to locate and in all of
their undertakings. See their an
nouncement in this issue.
Upon complaint of Mesdames C. A.
Johnson and Julius Subert, five boys
were arrested and brought before Re
corder White last Monday. Four of
the number plead guilty to the crime
of insulting ladies on the streets and
using vile and profane language. The
fifth one plead not guilty and tys cas
will be called for trial next Saturday
afternoon.
HOLLOWE'EN SOCIAL
Everyone is. invitd to attend a
Hallowe'en. Social at the Artisan Hall
Wednesday evening, 31st, to be given
by the Methodist Sunday School.
There will be no admission fee, but
the ladies ar requested to bring two
night caps exactly alike, and also a
pie. The c ips may be any color or
any s'yh desired, and any kind of pie
they wish to make. One of each of
these pairs of caps will be auctioneer
ed to the gentlemen, and after they
are sold each gentlemen will eat a pie
with the lady wearing the mate to his
cap, Everyone is expected to re
main after the pies are eaten to have
a pleasant social time with music,
games, etc.
Any farther information desired as
to the caps, pies, etc. may be obtained

enjoyable occasion, and being for a
vorthy cause to raise money for sup
plying the Methodist Sunday School
with song books we trust it will be
well attended,
SCHOOL NEWS
The enrollment has reached several
above a hundred and is steadily in
creasing. George Zink and Roy Munkers are
among these entering lately.
Miss Anna Leach is still unable to
attend school.
This week is examination week,
and a very busy time for all.
Oris Padberg has been in the coun
try for a few days visiting his Uncle.
Gladys Lane was bsent Monday for
the first time. Eliza Vhite entered
school, Oct. 22.
The interest in the Primary Grades
seems very great, as shown in the reg
ular attendance of the various students.
Mrs. John Carmichael has been
very kind to the students and furnished
many beautiful flowers, to freshen the
appearance of the school room.
The Lexington High School Social
Club held its last meeting t the hom
of Miss Amanda Waid, last Friday
evening. The evening was very pleas
antly spent playing games. .Several
new games were introduced.
BLACK HORSE
Hellol Blackhorse has come to life
again The writer has been helping
cook for hay balers at J. A. Brown's.
The dance at James Doherty's last
Friday evening was largely attended.
A good supper was served.
Geo. Brown, who has been the
guest of his brother, James Brown,
the past few months, departed for
Portland last Monday' where he will
spend the winter with his mother.
Mrs. Chas. Valentine visited on
Blackhone Sunday! She informed
us that she expects to visit with her
sister In Washington, in the near
future.
Geo. Mead will soon have his fall
grain in the ground. Several are pre
paring to do their seeding
Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Scott and little
daughter Visited With Mr. and Mrs.
John Barton Sunday.
Miss Lorah Conner, of Gooseberry,
was a Blackhorse visitor the latter
part of last week.
Mrs. Abby VanHorn, of Willow
creek, visited with Mrs. Mead Sunday.
Mrs. Jennie Barton visited in Lex
ington Monday.
