Almost every merchant agrees that
prosperity is induced by prosperity in
other words, nothing succeeds like
success. Prosperity will not induce a
continuance of itself if it is concealed.
Make it kncvn that you are prosperous
It is one of the functions of advertis
. ing. Not sbne the merchant profits
by prosperity advertising. The city
which announces its phencminal
growth, the state which shows its sta
tistics of advancement, benefit by
their advertising methods. The news
paper is the natural and the best me
dium for advertising. Oregon Trades'

An influential citizen of lone has re
quested us to overlook the ravings of
the long eared muddle brained insect
that pretends to preside over the des
tiny of the Proclaimer. This party
says: "Carter is not to blame, he
doesn't know any better and is keep
ing lone in a muddle continually. , He
is hurting the entire county." We re
frain from making any reply to the
jumbled item in the last Issue of the
Proclaimer, and we do not care to
bring ourself down to the low level
of the man behind the "mouthpiece".
SENTENCE SERMONS
By Henry F. Cope.
Convenience often poses as con
science. The honest cask does not fear the
knocker.

The chesty man seldom has
accommodations for a full grown heart.
The tears that accompany a choking

Lacks Chin, but Not Grit.
It is generally believed that a man
of force must have chin. Not only
the mentum, but the entire inaudi
ble, must be well developed. Yet
here is John Redmond, the new lead
er of the Liberal party in England,
with no ehin to speak of, one of the
most ambitious men in public life,
distinctly clover, always lighting
against heavy odds, always coining
up smiling after every defeat and
finally accomplishing. John Red
mond declared war against Great
Britain many years ago, provoking
shouts of laughter on both sides of
the house of commons. There is no
laughter now, only wonder and obe
dience. New York Press.

Fire In Col Mine.
The use of milk of lime for quick
ly and effectively extinguishing fires
in coal mines is recommended by
Inspector Wolfgang Kummer, a
German. The suggestion is not new,
but has been newly tested with sat
