LEXINGTON, OREGON, THURSDAY AUGUST 2, 1900
NO. 45
COUNTY NEWS,
lone Proclalmer
Miss Nina Dorman returned yester
day from Heppner where she has
been working in the Pastime the past
six months.
Rev. J. L. Jones and daughter,
Margueret, went to Weiser, Idaho,
Wednesday, where Margueret will
make her home with her aunt, Mrs.
Roy Buerley.
Heppner Times
An indication that a very large a
mount of grain lr being harvested in
this county is that almost every day
now farmers are in for farm machin
ery Threshing will start up about the
first of next week.
N. Williamson of Moscow, Idaho,
buys the entire stock of the Fair
Store. A bill of sale has been filed
with County Clerk Hill from S. E.
Carr to N. Williamson for all the
merchandise and fixtures of the Fair
Store.
The dog killer has been at large
the past few days in Heppner and the
result Is some dozen dead dogs, some
of which were classed as very fine an
imals. While our city may have alto
gether too many worthless curs, it
would seem that a more humane
method than poisoning might be em- j
ployed In disposing of them. j
Hsppner Gazette
Garfield Crawford returned from
Portland, Saturday. He left Monday
for Burns where he goes to take
charge of a Burns newspaper.
Work is now progressing on Frank
Roberts' new building which will be
used as a skating rink. This building
which is 40x1 20 feet will contain more
floor space than any single room in
Heppner. There will be a fine hard
wood floor and the rink will be one of
the finest in the country.
Adulterated Leather,
The Scientific American takes oc
casion to call attention to adulterat
ed leather. Lightweight stock is
made to pa&s the weight test by the
use of glucose and barium. Leather
so treated has a peculiar quality of
absorbing moisture at all times.
Shoes made from such stock a.r
never dry and are a constant men
ace to the health of the wearer.
"Itlak liny Willi the timl Hiilnos."
There Is a lesson In the work of the
thrifty farmer. He knows that the
bright sunshine may last but a day and
he prepares for the showers which are
so liable to follow. So it should be with
every household. Dysentery, diar
rhoea and cholera morbus may attack
some member of the home without
warning. Chamberlain, s Colic, Choi
era and Diarrhoea. Remedy, which
is the best known medicine for these
diseases, should always be kept at
hand, as immediate treatment is nec
essary, and delay may prove fatal.

Store.
