Entered as second-class matter October
6, 1905, at the post office at Lexington, Or
egon, under the Act cf Congress of March
3, 1879.
THURSDAY APRIL 12, 1906.
A representative of the Pendleton
Tribune was in Lexington yesterday
soliciting orders for job work from our
merchants. We understand that he
made the assertion that we could not
do good job work because we did not
have the presses to do good work, and
that our prices were too high. We
use the same kind of presses, inks,
type and stock as used by the Tribune.
It is true our presses were second
hand and so was the Tribune material
and presses when they purchased from
the Baker City Herald. We are not
ashamed to place pur work alongside
of their work, and we believe our price
compares favorably with theirs. It is
needless to state that he failed to con
nect with orders here, and lost sub
: scribers for his paper by his abuse of
The Wheatfield.
Ernest G. Rice, traveling salesman
for the American Type Founders Co.,
spent a few hours with the Wheatfield
man last Friday. We knew Ernest in
1901 when he was office boy for the
firm he now represents. A close appli
cation to business and never loosing
sight of the company's interests has
been a great factor in the rapid rise of
this young man. It has been a pleas
ure to us to watch this advancement.
W. O. Hill, Candidate for county
clerk, was in Lexington Saturday last.
Mr. Hill says he is well satisfied with
his prospects and thinks the voters
will give him a nice majority over his
opponents.
