R. L. Benge to allow his name to be
used as a candidate for county com
missioner. Mr. Benge has made a

could be selected to conduct county

Under the head of Religion in last
weeks issue the revival meetings were
advertised to commence at 7:30 p. m.
yet on Sunday evening last a ' change
was made to 7 o'clock for that evening
only. A number came in from the
country to attend the Sunday evening
meeting and were reprimanded for be
ing nearly a half hour late. This Is a
good Indication that The Wheatfield is
read extensively as everyone knew the
hour as advertised in these columns.
A curious survival of superstition is
the use of a "wand" of witch hazel or
other wood, to locate metals, waters,
petroleum and almost anything else one
hopes to find underground. The prac
tice Is as unreasonable as possible, but
it has led to unaccountable discoveries
for centuries, and still prevails all over
the civilized world. The latest Instance
of it is the use of a witch wand by Mr.
Lamphear, of Anacortes, Wash., to
trace a river of oil 800 feet under
ground and some sixty miles long; Or
egonian. John H. Aitkin, of Huntington, has
announced his candidacy for Republi
can nominee for State Treasurer.
The following Is the platform adopted
by Mr. Aitkin. "I will give a straight
forward, economical, business adminis
tration of the office, In " accordance
with our laws. All persons will be
