The cause of the lights going out so
many times during the entertainment
in the Artisan hall Tuesday evening
was not the fault of the Electric Com
pany nor through any fault of the
machinery, but was the work of some
of the "smart set" who turned the
switch In the hall.

The Cantata given by the Epworth

den of Singing Flowers was the lead
ing Musical event of the season and
will long be remembered by those who
attended. Each one taking their parts
to perfection. The general verdict of
all Is that Lexington has better
musical talent than any one supposed.
It is rumored that F. H. Robinson
will run for county clerk of Morrow
county. Just like his brother in Sher
man county. Proclaimed
Guess again Bro. Carter. R. H.
Robinson, brother of F. H., is a can
didate for clerk of Gilliam county.
While we do not pretend to dictate to
the voters of Gilliam county, R. H.
Robinson, if elected will make them
one of the best clsrks they ever had.
The announcement of E. M. Shutt,
as a candidate for Sheriff is published
in this issue of The Wheatfield. Mr.
Shutt informs us that he does not de
pend entirely upon any particular party
but the better citizenship of Morrow
county for his support. E. M. Shutt
is not seeking the office, as "tie an
nounced some time ago that he would
not be a candidate for re-election, but
the people of the county have made
the demand that he allow his name to
new shares De used as a candidate. We all

from The Wheatfield would be useless.
He is known throughout Eastern Ore
gon as the most fearless Sheriff In the
State.

The State Tax Commission propose
changes In state laws as follows:
County Treasurer to be tax collector
Instead of Sheriff.
County Commissioners to be added
to Board of Equalization.
Appeal against assessment to be
made directly to Circuit Court instead
of under present injuction and review
proceedings.
Methods of assessment to be same
as now, except as to public service
corporations.
Such corporations to be assessed by
a state tax commission on capitalized
net earnings.
The commission to have advisory
and supervisory power over County
Assessors.
Washington system of collecting
delinquent taxes and Issuing tax deeds
to be adopted.
State school lands, sold, but not
deeded by state, to be assessed.
County Assessors to certify under
oath that they have assessed at ful
cash value.

date for Sheriff of Morrow county on
the Republican ticket, subject to the
will of the voters at the direct primaries
on the 20th of April, 1906.
If nominated and elected I pledge
my self to enforce the laws of our
State, fearlessly, impartially and to
the very best of my ability. The laws
were made to be enforced. If the
present laws are a detriment to the
people they should be repealed and
new ones enacted by the legislature.
I belong to no political ring or clique
whatsoever, and tolerate' no dictations
from any man or set of men on earth.
If elected Sheriff again the horse
thieves of Morrow county, the gamblers
and other law breakers shall receive
my undivided attention.
