RUSSIAN THISTLF.
Some time ago The Wheatfield was
asked, by B. F. Swaggart, to' ascer
tain the laws regarding Russian
Thistle. We have made a careful
study of the law and find ' that Article
22, Sections 4920 to 4934 pertain to
the extermination of Russian, Canada
or Chinese thistle and other obnoxious
weeds. These sections give the road
Supervisor authority to go upon any
lands for the purpose of destroying
these weeds, if after notice the owner
refuses to do so, and file an itemized
statement of the expense and the
same shall be entered as a lein upon
said premises.
SCHOOL IMOTES
School opened Tuesday with a good
attendance. Those wishing to enter
primary pupils ' in school: this year
should do so at once as new classes
cannot be formed for those entering
later.
The box supper, turned out excep
tionally well financially $1 14,65 were
taken in, $4.65 were paid for hall rent
leaving a balance of $1 10 to be applied
to school "purposes. The. school has
now more than paid.the part promised.
At the school meeting the ' general
sentiment of those present was that
this money should not be used, for
general school purposes, butshould be
applied to outside expenses to build up
the school, that is such things as a
library or gymnasium. For 'the
present the money has been turned in
to the general school fund." j
At the school meeting last Tuesday
a 14 mill tax was voted to meet the
expenses of the coming year.
Following is the report of the pupils
