LOCAL NEWS
A petition is In circulation asking
for a Sunday mall. This Is one thing
that is badly needed on the branch.
SCHOOL NOTES ;
Several pupils have entered during
the week. , ' ,
The last part of the week is exam I
nation. " Next week will try and give
the names of all those who rank above
The time is coming for basket ball
and the school will probably be sup
plied with a boys' and a girls' team
that will be glad to play any school
team in the county.
The primary and advanced rooms
are very crowded; old desks and front
seats and the teachers' desks are be
ing used to acomodate the pupils until
the other desks and the new teacher
arrives. We expect to open the new
room without fail next Monday. The
Principal will occupy the new room
and the new teacher will take the one
up stairs. , ,
A new coal house has been built
and the rubbish that has accumulated
In the vacant room is being cleared
out. The boys are at a loss ' to know
what they will do with their gymna
sium apparatus which they have used
heretofore In the vacant room. There
is some talk of building a small gym
nasium. It would be an undertaking
well worth considering.
The ninth grade class started Mon
day with an attendance of ten. As
the bookkeeping supplies have not ar
rived yet the work in that line will
probably not commence until Monday.
We would be glad to have any one
not attending school take up this
course -wi th the class. You can by
permission take up the bookkeeping
course alone. - Several of the class
expect to take typewriting. Steps are
being taken toward the organization of
a shorthand class. Tfiis will not be In
connection with the school but it gives
any one; an opportunity, to secure a
complete business course In Lexington.
One parting word !to the parents.
Please send your children to school.
Send them every day. We will try
and do, them some good. Remember
that in the present day the battle Is
not altogether to the strong and brave,
but to the one who is prepared. , You
owe It to your children to see that
they are prepared. If Jrou know of
any reasons why you think you should
not send your child to school let us
know. We know that tmr school has
Its faults. ,We know that It could be
better. We Intend to make it a bet
ter school.'. It is your duty to help us
out. '! , -'
