grounds, he grew up playing in
bands, and left college to pursue
a career in music. She started
singing at a young age.
Their newest album, “Georgia
Gothic,” released on March 18
through ATO Records. Featured
songs include “Jeff Goldblum,”
which they performed on “The
Late Show with Stephen Col-
bert.”
“Performing for television is
always a bit nerve wracking, but
we’ve done it before in England
for the Jools Holland show in
2018, which was great,” Mat-
tiel said. “I think the main thing
is making sure it sounds right…
making sure that what’s coming
through is sounding the way it
should. But performing for Col-
bert was really amazing! I was so
happy with our performance.”
In addition to their Baker City
show, Mattiel is touring the West
Coast, then heading to Europe for
more than a month “to promote
the album and play some long-
awaited shows,” Swilley said.
Mattiel, like so many musi-
cians around the world, cancelled
shows during the two-year pan-
demic. But they stayed busy.

“We took advantage of that
time to make a new record, and
I’m really glad we had the time to
do that,” Mattiel said. “It wouldn’t
have happened the way it did if
we had been on the road. We’re
very fortunate that the pandemic
didn’t hit us too hard.”
Mattiel released their fi rst
album “Mattiel” in 2017, fol-
lowed by “Satis Factory” in 2019.
“Georgia Gothic” is their third
release.
“We’re on most streaming
platforms, but we really want you
to buy a record!” Swilley said.
