Got talent?
By TAMMY MALGESINI
Hermiston Herald
The Hermiston High School Band Boosters are hosting a
Community Talent Show. Any and all forms of talent are wel-
come to audition.
“We are accepting any sort of musical act, even comedy or
dancing — anything that you could consider a talent is on the
table,” said Mike Kellison, a band booster and beginning jazz
band director at the high school. “We’re looking for magic or
something fun like that. Any type of talent that can be featured,
we would love to have someone do it.”
Auditions are April 12-13, 6-9 p.m. in the band room at
Hermiston High School, 600 S. First St. People do not have to
register in advance to audition. The performance is April 23,
6 p.m. in the school’s fi ne arts auditorium.
The show will be an open competition, Kellison said. All age
groups and types of talent will compete against each other.
The event is being held as a fundraiser for the HHS Band
Boosters. Audience members can vote for the winners by plac-
ing donations in their favorite act’s corresponding box. The
overall winners are the acts that garner the most donations on
behalf of the band boosters. Organizers, Kellison said, are still in
the process of determining prizes for the top three acts.
“Ultimately it’s all about raising money for the students to
participate in music,” he said. “The winner will get bragging
rights and some sort of prize.”
The HHS Band Boosters, Kellison said, provide support in
various ways to students. The group assists with such things as
registration fees for music festivals/competitions, travel expenses
and the purchase of musical instruments for student use.
“We basically want to create opportunities for our students,”
he said. “We want to help students become active or continue
their journey in music.”

The Umatilla County Special
Library District encourages local
residents to connect with their
libraries during National Library
Week — April 3-9.
People can explore a variety
of services and programs avail-
able at local libraries. The libraries

trict director.
And April 3-9, she said, is a
great time to highlight the essential
role libraries, librarians and library
workers play in transforming lives
and strengthening communities.
The theme for this year’s National
Library Week is “Connect with
Your Library,” which promotes
the idea that libraries are places
to get connected to technology by
using broadband,
computers
and
other resources.
Libraries

ideas and classes,
in addition to
books. Most importantly, libraries
also connect communities to each
other, McCusker said.
Libraries of all types continue
to go above and beyond to keep
their communities connected by
expanding resources and embrac-
ing inclusion in their program-
ming, resources and collections.
Libraries across the country are
making a diff erence in people’s
lives by providing electronic learn-
ing resources like online home-
work help and wifi access for stu-
dents and workers who may lack
internet access at home.
McCusker encourages the pub-
lic to show their appreciation
and support for libraries by vis-
iting their library in person or
online, following them on social
media and using the hashtag
#NationalLibraryWeek.
First sponsored in 1958,
National Library Week is spon-
sored by the American Library
Association and libraries of all
types across the country each
April. For more information, fi nd
