“What we’re doing is having an
open stage most Thursday nights,
7-10 p.m., and it’s free to come
to,” said Chris Jennings of HQ.
Anyone with a presentation of
any type, be that a small group
band, a comedy routine, a mono-
logue, demonstration or spoken
word poetry, is welcome to take
the stage, present and share,
Jennings said.
On Thursday, March 24, HQ
will host its fi rst visiting act of
the season, Horse Feathers,
from Portland, at 7 p.m.
“They are a fi ve-piece band
with a lot of strings and a blue-
grassy rock genre,” Jennings
said.
Opening for the band is re-
turning guest Nick Delfs.
Horse Feathers will release a
deluxe re-issue LP of their break-
through 2008 album, “House
With No Home,” on April 8,
courtesy of Kill Rock Stars. The
formerly out-of-print LP is being
remastered from the original
audio, and will include a bonus
of unreleased material. The New
York Times described it as “a

Now on tour and making a

performing favorites from the
record in support of the release.
Fans will recognize their songs,
such as “Albina,” “A Burden,”
“Helen,” “Working Poor,” “This Is

Starting in April, Jennings said
HQ will be returning to weekly
shows as well as the open
stages on Thursday evenings.
“What I want to convey is that
HQ is a really great space for the
freedom of ideas — if people
want to promote a show or bring
in an exhibition,” he said. “It’s got
the capacity to show fi lms or
to put on a large band or large-
screen TV show. All that technol-
ogy is built into the stage.”
Jennings said he knows that
people are still coming out of the
COVID bubble, but he’s hop-
ing to get EOU students back
to HQ to do art again. He’s also
anticipating the Eastern Oregon
Film Festival in October, which is
moving toward its 13th year.
HQ does off er limited conces-
sions, and it serves beer, wine
and sodas. Most events cater to
family and children of all ages,
unless otherwise posted “21
Plus.” For those who want to use
the space for a special event,
outside catering is allowed.
