Edward S. "Ed" Waits
July 28, 1934 - February 13, 2022
Edward S. “Ed” Waits was born
on a Saturday, July 28, 1934, to
parents Cecil Clenard and Lattie
Mae Waits in Panama, Oklahoma.
He passed away at his home in
Hermiston, Oregon, Sunday Feb.
13, 2022. He was 87 years old.
He is survived by his three
stepdaughters Cheri Lamb, Ter-
ri Odoms and Debby Anderson,
along with their spouses’ children and grandchildren.
Siblings Norma Griggs, Cecil Jr. “Pete” Waits and Con-
nie Halsey, as well as their spouses’ children and grand-
children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and
Lattie, two brothers, Thomas and Richard, as well as his
loving wife, Nova.
Ed was raised traveling many places, including
Oklahoma, Oregon and Wyoming. He entered the Army
while in high school and traveled to many countries
overseas. He was honorably discharged from the armed
forces of the United States of America on Tuesday Nov.
14, 1961.
He married the love of his life, Nova Waits (Dough-
erty), on Sunday Jan. 28, 1968. Ed worked in the heavy
construction industry like his father and several siblings
until an accident occurred in 1975 which cost him the
loss of his left arm. Ed and Nova did everything togeth-
er. Growing in their faith of our Lord Jesus Christ and
selling items either by storefront or traveling in their
RV, to building their own home in Arizona. In later
years, they purchased their home in Hermiston and
grew the most magnificent gardens and had many types
of fruit trees and vines. They would share with anyone
that could use the fresh fruits and vegetables. Ed was
well known for his ability to “buy,” “sell,” or “trade”
almost anything. He also gained a wealth of knowledge
by spending hours upon hours reading and learning
about anything that took his interest at the time. His sto-
ries of his life and knowledge as well as funny stories
will be missed by many.
A graveside service was held at the Hermiston Cem-
etery with military honors on Thursday Feb. 17, 2022.
Those that wish to make contributions in Ed’s mem-
ory can do so at the site below, your church of faith, as
well as any other charity of your choice.
