7:21 a.m. — A caller on Paterson Ferry Road, Boardman, re-
ported someone broke into containers and stole a roll of wire.
3:13 p.m. — Hermiston police received a report of a vehicle
theft on East Francolin Avenue.
5:08 p.m. — A 911 caller reported the theft of a vehicle on East
Gladys Avenue, Hermiston.
TUESDAY, JAN. 18
1:42 p.m. — A man came to the Morrow County Justice Court,
205 N.E. Main Ave., Irrigon, and reported he thinks he is the
victim of fraud through the sale of a vehicle.
9:15 p.m. — Mountain Glen Apartments, 200 N.E. Pioneer
Drive, Heppner, a caller asked for a Morrow County sheriﬀ ’s
deputy to respond because her uncle was harassing her and
yelled at her. A deputy responded, contacted the female but
was not able to contact the uncle.
WEDNESDAY, JAN. 19
10:14 a.m. — A Hermiston resident on West Hartley Avenue
reported during an argument with her brother, he took her
daughter’s Chromebook charger, a watch and other items.
11:39 p.m. — The Umatilla County Sheriﬀ ’s Oﬃ ce received a re-
port of shots ﬁ red at Sunshine and Baggett lanes in Hermiston.
THURSDAY, JAN. 20
12:24 a.m. — Fire departments responded to the eastbound
side of Interstate 84 for a vehicle ﬁ re near Boardman. A 911
caller reported he had a blown tire that caught his trailer on
ﬁ re. Fireﬁ ghters extinguished the blaze.
6:57 a.m. — A Hermiston resident on East Diagonal Boulevard
reported the person who tried to steal his vehicle was sitting
on his neighbor’s retaining wall.
10:38 a.m. — Hermiston police initiated activity on Southwest
Ninth Street for a ﬁ ght and took a report.
11:22 a.m. — Hermiston police initiated activity again on
Southwest Ninth Street for a ﬁ ght and took a report.
1:13 p.m. — Hermiston police responded to Northeast Fifth
Street and Templeton Avenue on a report of a burglary.
2:30 p.m. — A Hermiston resident reported buying a $500
Apple card, but when his girlfriend tried to use it there was no
money in the account.
2:49 p.m. — A 911 caller reported a ﬁ ght between their grand-
son and son-in-law on Highway 730 in Umatilla.
FRIDAY, JAN. 21
7:03 a.m. — An inmate at the Umatilla County Jail, Pendleton,
asked for contact from the Morrow County Sheriﬀ ’s Oﬃ ce so
he could report a stolen vehicle.
8:47 a.m. — A Heppner resident reported people are leaving
Bucknum’s, 152 N. Main St., Heppner, each night and honking
their vehicle horns at 1 a.m.
11:17 a.m. — A caller reported a person set up a tent against
the back fence at Hodge Park, 160 E. Highland Ave., Hermis-
ton, and is camping there.
12:07 p.m. — A resident at Green Acres RV Park, 80542 Pater-
son Ferry Road, Irrigon, reported ﬁ nding the steering wheel of
a vehicle ripped apart but the keys were in the vehicle.
5:11 p.m. — The Morrow County Sheriﬀ ’s Oﬃ ce received a
report of a theft of a 2002 red Hyundai Elantra on South First
Street, Irrigon.
6:01 p.m. — Hermiston police receive a report of juveniles in a
van without supervision on East Hurlburt Avenue.
SATURDAY, JAN. 22
3:17 a.m. — A caller reported there was a female at a location
on South Highway 395, Hermiston, who was screaming “Get
away from me.” Police were not able to make contact.
4:45 p.m. — Hermiston police received a report of two “babies
left in a car” on North First Street.
6:59 p.m. — A resident on Southeast Utah Avenue, Irrigon, re-
ported people were driving around in a red all-terrain vehicle
with no headlights or helmets in the fog. The Morrow County
Sheriﬀ ’s Oﬃ ce made contact and warned the individuals not
to trespass and wear helmets on the ATV.
SUNDAY, JAN. 23
12 a.m. — Boardman police received a report of an intoxicat-
ed man causing a disturbance on Willow Fork Drive. Police
and medics responded and found there was a verbal alterca-
tion “exaggerated by alcohol.”
Neil King
February 5, 1933 - January 14, 1922
Neil King of Boardman,
Oregon, was born on Feb. 5,
1933, in Keenesburg, Colorado,
to Benjamin and Lena Webb
King. He died on Jan. 14, 2022, in
Hermiston, Oregon, at the age of 88
years. Neil was raised in Colorado
before moving to Coquille,
Oregon, during high school,
graduating in 1951. He then joined
the United States Navy and served during the Korean
War from 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1956.
Neil was united in marriage to M. Jeanne Brewster
on Jan. 1, 1955, in Myrtle Point, Oregon. They lived on
the Southern Oregon Coast until moving to Portland,
Oregon, in 1966, where he attended Multnomah Bible
College. They later settled in Boardman, Oregon, in
1970, where Neil was called to be the pastor at the
Boardman Community Church. Fifty years later to
the month, Neil was called again to be the pastor at
the church. He later worked at the Boardman Coal
Fire Plant as the plant operator. Neil enjoyed fishing,
hunting, working on cars, snowmobiling, going to the
mountains and traveling.
He is survived by his daughters, Martha Leader and
her husband Butch of Milwaukie, Oregon, Cynthia
Whitney and her husband Stephen of Wenatchee,
Washington, and Leora Svatonsky and her husband
Alan of Irrigon, Oregon; grandchildren, Jason, Jeremy,
Dustin (Nikki), Corey, Ben (Jessica), Rachel (Brad),
Timothy (Laura), Daniel (Michelle) and Ciara; 12 great-
grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Neil was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne; a son,
Randy King; his parents; his sisters, Ruby and Ruth;
and his brothers, Bill, Bob and Noel.
A graveside service with military honors was held on
on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2022, at 11 a.m. at the Hermiston

6:08 a.m. — A vehicle crashed into a tree at the Rustic Truck Bar
& Grill, 100 W. Highway 730, Irrigon. The Morrow County Sheriﬀ ’s
Oﬃ ce and Irrigon medics and ﬁ re responded. An ambulance took
one person to Good Shepherd Medical Center, Hermiston.
3:59 p.m. — An Irrigon resident on Northeast Seventh Street
reported the theft of her mini bike. .
5:24 p.m. — A 911 caller at a laundromat on North First Street,
Hermiston, reported a female there was refusing to wear a mask.
MONDAY, JAN. 24
10:05 a.m. — A Morrow County sheriﬀ ’s deputy initiated activity
at Green Acres RV Park, 80542 Paterson Ferry Road in Irrigon and
contacted a juvenile who has been stealing from school and
broke a student Chromebook.
10:31 a.m. — A woman came into the Umatilla Police Depart-
ment and reported she was being harassed and threatened.
11:22 a.m. — Hermiston police took a report of a burglary on
Northwest 11th Street.
12:33 p.m. — An Irrigon resident on Southeast Division Street
called 911 and reported she and her husband were in an argu-
ment. Deputies arrested the man for domestic violence harass-
ment.
4:22 p.m. — Umatilla County Sheriﬀ ’s Oﬃ ce received a report of
vehicle theft at Hermiston Chrysler Dodge Jeep, 81143 Highway
395.
Irene G. Miller
October 11, 1921 - January 17, 2022
Irene G. Miller was born Oct.
11, 1921, on a farm outside Mon-
te Vista, Colorado, the daughter of
Ora and Edna (Timblin) Elwood,
the middle child between two
brothers, the only girl in the fam-
ily. She passed away in her home
in Hermiston, surrounded by her
three daughters, on Monday, Jan.
17, 2022, at the age of 100 years.
Irene lived in Monte Vista, Col-
orado, in a home with an artesian
well of constantly streaming cold water that served
as their refrigerator! She graduated from Monte Vista
High School in 1939 and studied secretarial skills at
Blair College in Colorado Springs.
During World War II, she worked at Consolidated
Aircraft helping to build B24s in San Diego, California.
She could have been Rosie the Riveter! This was the
Big Band era, and she met Harold Miller at a dance.
They were united in marriage on Aug. 7, 1942, in
San Diego, California. The couple lived in Colorado for
a short time until Harold’s military service and work
required several moves. In 1951, the couple moved to
Hermiston, Oregon, where she has resided since. In
Hermiston, Irene worked as a mother to her young fam-
ily and was a mentor for many young girls as Campfire
Girls leader and 4-H club leader. Her family hosted two
foreign exchange students through American Field Ser-
vice, one from Greece and another from Guatemala. In
1962 when her children were older, she began her bank-
ing career at First Federal Savings and Loan as a teller
and a loan officer in Hermiston. She retired in 1978 to
work in her husband's insurance office part time.
Irene also became even more active as a volunteer
for many organizations in the community: the Hermis-
ton Senior Center, Agape House, Habitat for Humanity,
Hermiston Eagles Lodge and the Hospital Auxiliary.
She taught Sunday school and served as treasurer at
the Hermiston United Methodist Church. She enjoyed
playing cards and bingo and has traveled all over the
world. She was preceded in death by her husband, Har-
old; an infant son, David; her parents; and two brothers.
She is survived by her daughters, Judy Hill Lovins,
Tara Edna Miller and Kathy Crowley; her foreign ex-
change daughter, Libby Quintana DeRamos; plus four
grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A celebration of her life is planned for Jan. 29
from 2-4 p.m. at the Harkenrider Senior Center.

Carolyn Jean (Tuck) Coke
December 1, 1937 – December 25, 2021
Carolyn, 84 of Stanfield, passed
away peacefully on Christmas Day.
Carolyn was born on Dec. 1, 1937,
in Magna, Utah, to Robert and
Josephine Tuck.
Carolyn spent her early years
in Utah and graduated from Ben
Lomond High School. She married
Gordon Bailey in 1956 and started
their family. Carolyn was active in
sorority, an avid golfer, bowler and
enjoyed snow and water skiing and fishing. The family
moved to Stanfield in 1966, Forest Grove in 1973, and
eventually Hillsboro. Carolyn worked as a Living Skills
Instructor for the developmentally disabled, a job she
loved. Her husband, Gordon, died unexpectedly in
1992. In 1998 she married Archie Coke of Tillamook.
Carolyn returned to Stanfield with Archie. They enjoyed
retirement around family, gardening, fishing, camping,
ATVs and RVing. She loved playing cards and was a
voracious reader.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Robert
Tuck and Josephine Langan; her sister, Diane; and
brother, Dennis. She is survived by husband, Archie;
children, Brad Bailey, Lynda Lester, Guy Bailey,
Kristina Peterson, Jim Bailey and Gordon Bailey Jr.;
two stepdaughters, Kellie Dotter and Kelsey Bailey;
and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren,
nieces, nephews and in-laws.
A celebration of Carolyn’s life is planned for a

John Ambrosio Virgil

John Ambrosio Virgil of
Pendleton (formerly of Hermiston)
was born Jan. 27, 1933, in Sterling,
Colorado, the son of Louis and
Mary (Sandoval) Virgil. He passed
away in Pendleton on Thursday,
Jan. 20, 2022, at the age of 88
years.
John grew up and attended
schools and graduated from high
school in Sidney, Nebraska. He
joined the National Guard after high school where he
obtained the rank of corporal and served for several
years. In 1968, he moved to Hermiston, Oregon, where
he lived for over 40 years. He resided in Eastern Oregon
for the past 54 years, and the last six were in Pendleton.
John worked as a mechanic for Campbell’s Motors in
Hermiston for over 17 years. He later managed Leathers
Oil Service Stations in Hermiston and Pendleton. After
retiring, he missed being busy and took a job with
ODOT where he worked in maintenance for several
more years.
John enjoyed telling a good joke and playing bingo
whenever the opportunity arose. He had a strong faith
and belief in God and had read his Bible many times
from cover to cover. He had a deep love of his family,
especially his grandchildren.
John married Mary Herrera on Sept. 1, 1951, in
Lyman, Nebraska. She preceded him in death on Oct.
15, 2015. He was also preceded in death by a son, Mike.
He is survived by four sons, Gary Virgil, Bruce
Virgil, Gabe Virgil and Rodney Virgil; 13 grandchildren
and many great-grandchildren; and several brothers and
sisters and extended family members.
A graveside service was held on at 2 p.m. on Monday,
Jan. 24, 2022, at the Hermiston Cemetery. Burns
Mortuary of Hermiston is in care of arrangements.In
