Arts and Culture continues adding to
its schedule of classes and workshops. The

Here’s a look at the early 2022 off erings.
ADDING COLOR TO COPPER WITH
DONA MILLER
Learn the basics of adding color to
metal through enameling in this class on
Jan. 8 from 1-4 p.m. Enameling uses fi nely
ground glass, which is fused to the metal
using a heat source such as a torch or kiln.
Participants will be using small torches. A
minimum of four people is required to have
the class. Cost is $50.
The instructor is Dona Miller, a jeweler

LEARN TO PLAY THE MOUNTAIN
DULCIMER WITH HEIDI MULLER
Heidi Muller will lead a workshop on
the mountain dulcimer beginning Jan. 9
and meeting every Sunday through Feb.
13. The class meets from 2-3 p.m. Rental
dulcimers are available.
INTRODUCTION TO BLOCK
PRINTING WITH HEIDI MULLER

Heidi Muller will lead a six-week workshop on
playing the mountain dulcimer. Classes begin
Jan. 9 and meet on Sundays through Feb. 13.
The mountain dulcimer is a sweet-
sounding, three-stringed instrument
with roots in the Appalachian mountains.
Muller will teach the basics, and students
can typically play one or two simple
songs in the fi rst lesson. The music will in-
clude traditional tunes and familiar songs.
There is a three student minimum to run
class. Masks and proof of COVID vaccina-
tion are required. Cost is $150.

Students will learn how to transfer a
design, carve with cutting tools, then ink
and print an impression of the carved
block onto paper. Materials will be pro-
vided, but please bring some designs or
images.
Muller fi rst learned printmaking in high
school, and fi nally returned to it in 2019
by taking classes at the Josephy Center.
She makes linocut prints using the big
press in the print studio and enjoys mak-
ing small projects that she hand-prints at
home. She draws inspiration from nature
and iconic women.

Josephy Center on making bezel set copper
earrings.
BEZEL SET COPPER EARRINGS
WITH DONA MILLER
Dona Miller will teach a class on mak-
ing earrings on Feb. 19 from 1-4 p.m.
Cost is $65. Masks are required.
These simple copper earrings are a
great way to learn how to solder pre-
made bezel cups and set cabochons
while making something unique. Stu-
dents will work through the designing
of the earrings, texturing and fi nishing
the earring blanks, soldering the bezel
cups to the earrings and then setting the
stones. Tools will be available.
