JOSEPH — Fishtrap will
present an online writing work-
shop titled “Stalking the Story”
on Saturday, Oct. 23, from
10 a.m.-noon. It is led by Karen
Auvinen. Registration is $60, or
$55 for Fishtrappers.
Here is the workshop
description: “To write well,
you must learn to circle the
story until it reveals itself to
you. Come play in this genera-
tive workshop meant to teach
you how to stalk your writing.
Exercises will spur writing that
will surprise you and off er new
perspective and energy to
whatever you are working on.
Poets, fi ction writers, memoir-
ists, and the mildly curious are
all welcome.”
Auvinen is an award-winning
poet, mountain woman, life-
long westerner, writer, and
the author of the memoir
“Rough Beauty,” fi nalist for the
Colorado Book Award and the
Willa Award.

BAKER CITY — The Ison
House Bed and Brew — “Bed and
Boo” for this event — is reveling
in the holiday spirit this month
with the second annual Hallow-
een Bash on Saturday, Oct. 30,
starting at 4 p.m.
The evening, for ages 21 and
older, includes food, a costume
contest, and live music by Trailer
Hitch starting at 7 p.m. There is
no cover charge; beverages and
food will be available to pur-
chase. The winner of the cos-
tume contest will be announced
at 9 p.m.

HAUNTED STUDIOS
BAKER CITY — Churchill
Haunted Studios is open every
weekend through Halloween.
The entrance is in the parking
lot of Churchill School, 3451
Broadway St.
Friday and Saturday tours
begin at 6:30 p.m. and the last
person goes through at 9:30 p.m.
Sundays are from 5:30-8:30 p.m.,
with the fi rst hour a “no scare”
experience for those who want
to see the artistic creations with-
out the screams.

‘DRAWING TO SEE’
CLASS BEGINS OCT. 27
PENDLETON ART CENTER
PENDLETON — Shari Dallas
will lead a class titled “Drawing
to See” on Wednesdays, from
6-7 p.m., at the Pendleton Cen-
ter for the Arts. The class is four
sessions, beginning Oct. 27. It
is open to all ability levels, with
an affi nity for drawing the only
requirement. Tools and materi-
als will be provided. Cost is $85
members, $90 nonmembers.
There is also a $15 materials

HALLOWEEN IS THE
THEME AT YOUTH
ART NIGHT
UMATILLA — In introducing
its Youth Art Night, participants
will use diff erent techniques to
decorate pumpkins and make
fun Halloween rock art. Kids are
encouraged to play around with
diff erent mediums to discover
their own unique style. Hosted
by the city of Umatilla, the activ-
ity is recommended for kids
ages 8 to 14. All supplies are
provided free of charge.

Night is Monday, Oct. 25, 4-5:15
