REGISTER NOW FOR ‘HAUNT CAMP: CREATURE CREATION WORKSHOP’ JOSEPH, WALLOWA — The Josephy Center for Arts and Culture and artist JR Rymut will off er a six week workshop for high school students called Haunt Camp: Creature Creation Workshop. Classes are free and will happen in two loca- tions: The Place in Joseph and the Wallowa Elementary School multipurpose room. Joseph’s fi rst class will be after school on Sept. 20; classes will meet every Monday and Wednesday. On Sept. 21 classes will start in Wal- lowa, taking place on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Start times will be determined to accommodate student travel time, and the course will run until Halloween. There is room for 15 students in both locations. Students will learn how to safely create a plaster copy of their face, sculpt a character mask, and transform it into realistic silicone pieces while learning the same techniques used in Hollywood today. “For years I’ve been working on bringing this class to high school students in Wallowa County; I’m so grateful it’s fi nally happening,” Rymut said. “We’re creating high-quality prosthetic makeup the same way special eff ects shops in the fi lm industry do. And that’s the point of the class — not only are we making really unusual, exciting projects, as a professional creative fabri- cator I want to introduce teens to career paths in the arts they may not know exist.” In the class, students will design their own character to bring to life. 19 QUICK TAKES A BRIEF LOOK AT WHAT’S HAPPENING IN EASTERN OREGON “JR and I have been working together for a while trying to make this happen and just by serendipity we had the perfect grant that fi t perfectly with this project. I can’t wait to see the end result,” said Cheryl Cough- lan, Josephy executive director. “The workshop also lets stu- dents exercise their dramatic and video production skills at the end, by creating TikTok vid- eos to show off their creations.” Students can register online at hauntcamp.com. The class is free, but registration and masks are required. For questions, email Rymut at hauntedcamp@ gmail.com.
