In a class on Thursday, Aug. 12, children will learn the art of printmaking while designing a postcard. The following Thurs- day, Aug. 19, crafty youth can build their own kite from scratch. There are two sessions of each workshop: ages 5-8 from 10- 11:15 a.m., and ages 9-12 from 1-2:30 p.m. The cost is $10 per workshop. The in-person classes are held at the Josephy Center for Arts and Culture, 403 N. Main WALLOWA LAKE VILLAGE — This summer the Wallowa Lake Lodge is hosting a variety of free events, including talks on Thursdays at 7 p.m. The talk on Thursday, Aug. 5, will be given by Jude Graham, curator of the Wallowa County Museum in Joseph, who will tell the stories and drama associated with pro- hibition times in historic Joseph. The following Thursday, Aug. 12, Wallowology will host a “Per- seid Peaks” presentation at the lodge by D.J. Lincoln of the Wal- lowa Valley Astronomers. The annual Perseid meteor shower peaks in mid-August, with hundreds of meteors shooting across the summer sky. According to a press release, Jack Maybe and his band are “enchanting, dutiful, jubilant and foretelling.” The solo act of Travelin’ Miles will play Saturday, Aug. 7. Hail- ing from Boise, he plays guitar, banjo, harmonica and a home- made suitcase percussion kit. When he’s not traveling solo, he also performs with Honey Bear in a jug band duo. HAINES — The annual Haines Stampede demolition derby happens Saturday, Aug. 7, at the rodeo arena in Haines. Gates open at 4 p.m., and the derby begins at 6 p.m. Admission for spectators is $15 adults, $10 for seniors and members of the military, and $5 for ages 5-12. Entry is free for age 5 and younger. This event raises money for the Haines Stampede rodeo, which is held July 3-4 every year.
