A GRANDE — With the easing of pub-
lic health restrictions, live music has
returned to HQ, 112 Depot St.
Three nights of music are planned
for August. For each show, doors open
at 7 p.m. and the music begins at 8 p.m.
Admission is $10 at the door.
First up is Sun Blood Stories on Satur-
day, Aug. 7. A band from Boise, Sun Blood
Stories describes their music as “high
desert psych fuzz” on www.sunblood-

in 2011, is named after the color of Boise’s
skies during summer forest fi res.
Sun Blood Stories — Cody Goin (bass,
synth), Amber Pollard (vocals, slide gui-
tar), Wade Ronsse (drums) and Ben Kirby
(vocals, guitar, slide guitar) — performs
regularly at the annual Treefort Music
Fest, Boise’s signature event.
Another band together for a long
time, The Shivas take the stage at HQ on
Friday, Aug. 13. The group, which formed
in 2006, began booking West Coast tours
while still in high school, according to
their website, www.theshivas.org.
Guitarist/singer Jared Molyneux, bass-
ist Eric Shanafelt and drummer/singer
Kristin Leonard have all been with the
band since its earliest days, and guitar-
ist Jeff City, another high school friend,
joined in 2017.
The Portland-based band has a “live
urgency,” says their website. “They’ve
honed and tightened their performances
without sacrifi cing the element of sur-
prise that makes each show special.”
On Saturday, Aug. 21, La Grande
heavy metal band Nogero rounds out the
month’s trio of eclectic concerts.
“We play around with several styles of
metal but the genre we usually stick with
is known as thrash metal,” said Nik Hack-
ney, the group’s guitarist.
Shawn Turley (on bass), Ian Dill (on
drums) and Hackney are all “La Grande
boys born and raised,” Hackney said —
and vocalist Jim Noyes has lived in La
Grande for years. All members grew up
playing metal and other kinds of music.
Hackney said he joined the band about
three years ago but the other members
had already been playing as Nogero for
several years.
“The upcoming show will be our lon-
gest set to date featuring at least 13 origi-
nal songs plus a handful of fan favorite
covers,” Hackney said. “Come out, have
some fun, and bang your head.”
