Area towns to celebrate Independence Day

From parades and com-
munity celebrations to fi re-
works shows, area commu-
nities are gearing up to help
commemorate the Fourth of
July. Events listed below are
scheduled on Saturday, July
3, and Sunday, July 4.
Most celebrations feature
free admission, with some
activities (meals, fun runs,
raffl es, etc.) charging a fee.
Area events include:

The sun shines through a new entrance sign at the Funland
Playground in Hermiston. The park will be dedicated Sunday,
July 4, 2021, at the start of Hermiston’s Stars & Stripes Fourth
of July celebration.

of July

Seventh St., Hermiston
Event kicks off with the
dedication of the new Fun-
land Park. Then, park activ-
ities will include a game
zone, bounce houses, food
vendors, arts and crafts
booths, music by The
Shades and a fi reworks
show at dusk on the Herm-

The town kicks off its holiday celebration with a fundraising meal on Saturday, followed by a
Sunday event featuring a parade, park activities and fi reworks at dusk.

(7-10 a.m.); 5K fun run ben-
efi ts Stanfi eld track pro-
gram (7 a.m. registration,
8 a.m. race); 3-on-3 tour-
ney (7 a.m. register, 9 a.m.
games begin); parade, line
up at Coe Park (8 a.m. reg-
ister, 9 a.m. judging, 10 a.m.
start); pie baking contest
(8:30-10:30 a.m. entries due,
11 a.m. starts). Park activi-
ties from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.;
duck race at 1 p.m. and raf-
fl e prize drawing at 2 p.m.,
tickets are $5 each or eight
for $20 (available now at the
library and city hall). Items
include a 75-inch TV, fi sh-
ing kayak, vacuum, freezer,
portable basketball hoop
and more from Walmart DC.

Boardman Rumble
• July 3, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
• Boardman Marina Park
Columbia Youth Soccer
Club is hosting soccer com-
petitions and a community
celebration. Be sure to pur-
chase raffl e tickets, which
are $15 each or fi ve for $50,
for a chance to win some
great prizes. Items, which
were donated by the Walmart
Distribution Center and La
Guadalupana, include two
75-inch Vizio TVs, a small
chest safe, carpet cleaner,
a cordless vacuum, cooler,
hiking poles, an electric meat
knife and more.
Tickets are available
now through the time of the
drawing, which is Saturday,
July 3, at 6 p.m. at Board-
man Marina Park — it also
will be shown on Facebook
Live. Winners have 24 hours
to pick up their prizes.

Stanfi eld Baptist
invites kids to track
down God
Kids ages 4-12 will be
“Tracking Down the One
True God” at Stanfi eld Bap-
tist Church.
With a theme of Mystery
Island, the vacation Bible
school is Monday, July 12,
through Friday, July 16. It
runs each day from 9 a.m.
to noon at the church, 310 E.
Wheeler Ave., Stanfi eld. The
daily activities off er fun,
games, crafts and music.
Children do not have to
belong to a church to attend.
Parents can sign their kids
up at the VBS booth during
Stanfi eld’s Fourth of July
celebration at Bard Park. In
addition, people are encour-
aged to stick around the park
for a Quilts of Valor presen-
tation at the Fourth of July
community worship service
at 7 p.m.

McKenzie Park to host
Friday night fl icks
Movies in the Park off ers
family fun on upcoming Fri-
day nights in July.
The portable screen will
light up at dusk at McKenzie
Park, 320 S. First St., Herm-
iston. People are encouraged
to bring a lawn chair, a blan-
ket and their favorite snacks.
The shows include “Raya
& The Last Dragon (July
9), “Jurassic Park (July 16),
“Tom & Jerry (July 23)
and “The Goonies” (July
30). There is no admission
charge.

is planned Saturday, July 17,
from noon to 4 p.m. Because
of social distancing guide-
lines, there can only be nine
participants per one-hour
time slot. Teens who are
interested in participating
must pre-register.
Adults 18 and older can
attend a beekeeper presen-

6-8 p.m. Because of social
