The faith-based youth organization is planning a Dec. 27 trip to Ski Blue- wood. Other upcoming dates for its snowboard and ski program include Jan. 11, Feb. 2 and March 14. Energy Facility Siting Council to meet SALEM — Oregon’s Energy Facility Siting Council will meet on Dec. 19-20 in Pendleton. The public meeting begins at 5 p.m. Dec. 19 and will reconvene Dec. 20 at 8 a.m. at the Red Lion Inn, 304 S.E. Nye Ave. The main item on the council’s agenda is the Boardman to Heming- way Transmission Line. The council will receive a presentation Dec. 19 from Oregon Department of Energy staff, reviewing the B2H Draft Proposed Order, comments received on the DPO and responses from the project’s appli- cant, Idaho Power, to those comments. The agenda item continues Dec. 20 and the council may provide staff comments they would like to see reflected in the proposed order. The proposed 500-kilo- volt transmission line would span about 280 miles in Oregon and five counties, including Uma- tilla, Union and Baker counties. The next council meeting is tentatively set for Jan. 24 in Hood River. Rowan to head state sheriff’s association UMATILLA COUNTY — Umatilla County Sheriff Terry Rowan has been cho- sen as the new president of the Oregon State Sheriff’s Association. Rowan previously served as vice president of the organization, which provides training, lobby- ing and other services for the sheriff’s departments in all 36 counties. He will continue representing the viewpoint of Eastern Ore- gon sheriffs in his new role. Rowan is in his second term as Umatilla County sheriff. He was first elected in 2012, after previously serving as undersheriff for about seven years. Echoporium offers eclectic inventory A new store recently opened in Echo. Nominations open for teacher of the year The InterMountain Education Service Dis- trict announced an oppor- tunity for students, parents, school staff and commu- nity members to recognize the hard work of educa- tors who may be worthy of receiving an award. Nominations are now open for the Teacher of the Year award. Also, the Ore- gon Department of Educa- tion announced the contin- uation of Oregon Regional Teacher of the Year to honor exemplary educa- tors in every region of the state. Each education ser- vice district will select a winner from their region. The regional winners will be honored in May 2020 and each will receive a cash prize of $500. One of the regional winners will be named the 2021 Ore- gon Teacher of the Year in September 2020.
