While it might be a bit
frigid out on Halloween, lit-
tle ghouls, ghosts and goblins
can participate in a number
of safe trick-or-treat activ-
ities in the area. Business
owners, schools, churches
and community groups are
offering up a cache of candy
at several events on Thurs-
day — Halloween.
HERMISTON
•Treats on Main and
Beyond provides safe trick-
or-treating with many down-
town businesses handing out
candy from 3-5 p.m. — look
for signs in the window for
those participating. After
fi lling your bucket or bag
with candy, be sure to head
to the Hermiston Commu-
nity Center from 4-6 p.m.
for carnival games, bounce
houses, a haunted house, a
giant pumpkin, prizes and
much more for all ages.
The event is sponsored
by Rogers Toyota of Herm-
iston. There are still volun-
teer opportunities available

•Fall Fest 2019 at Herm-
iston Church of the Naza-
rene features food, fun and
a trunk-or-treat. The event
runs from 5-7 p.m. at the
church, 1520 W. Orchard
Ave. The free activities
also include games and hay

The Jonathan M. Wain-
wright Memorial VA Medi-
cal Center had a soft open-
ing of its new Same Day
Clinic, aka Sick Call Clinic,
at 77 Wainwright Drive in
Walla Walla.
Similar to the new urgent
care benefi t offered through
the MISSION Act, the new
service allows veterans to
get assistance with minor
medical issues without a
long wait for an appoint-
ment. And accessing Walla
Walla VA’s Same Day Clinic
allows records to remain
in-house and immediately
accessible in the veteran’s
record.
The clinic’s hours are
Monday through Friday
from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Veterans are encouraged to
bring their medication list if
they plan to visit the SDC.

HHS hosts Dia de los
Muertos event
A celebration featuring
food, desserts, face painting
and a picture station offers
fun for the whole family.
The Dia de los Muertos
event is Friday from 6-8 p.m.
at Hermiston High School,
600 S. First St. There is no
admission charge.
Commonly referred to as
“Day of the Dead,” the Mex-
ican holiday celebrates the
memory of friends and fam-
ily members who have died.
The two-day festival typi-
cally features food, fellow-
ship with friends, music and
prayer.

Corn maze fetches
canine fun
The Echo Corn Maze and
Pumpkin Patch is going to
the dogs.
Echo Corn Maze K9 Days
is Saturday from 1-5 p.m.
at 100 N. Dupont St. Peo-
ple are invited to bring their
well-behaved canine kids
on leash to the corn maze
for the last day of the sea-
son. Also during the event,
visit with adoptable dogs
and learn more about Pend-
leton Animal Welfare Shel-
ter. People are encouraged to
bring an item to donate from
the shelter’s wish list, which
can be viewed at www.pend-
letonpaws.org.
Regular admission is
$10, which includes the
Echo Corn Maze, the Corn
Crib, the Mini Corn Maze,
the Straw Bale Maze & Tun-
nels. The cost is $12 for an
all-day pass or the Field of
Screams. Other featured
attractions are $1 per ride.
Regular hours are Tues-
day through Thursday from
2-6 p.m.; Friday, 2-10 p.m.
($5 Fridays runs from
2-6 p.m.); and Saturday,
11 a.m. to 10 p.m. The Field
of Screams haunted path is
open Oct. 31 from 7-9 p.m.
