LETTER
Hermiston a
patriotic town
To the editor:
By way of introduction, I
purchased Universal Realty in
October of 2018, which we now
operate the John L Scott Real
Estate Franchise in the same
location.
A few weeks ago I was touring
an out of state investor who was
looking for land to help address
the lack of affordable housing
in the area. As we were tour-
ing the sites, the investor said,
“Look at that.” He was look-
ing at an American fl ag in the
yard of a resident. As we drove
through the city of Hermiston,
he would say, “and there is an-
other one, and another one, and
another one.” Finally, he stated,
“ You just do not see that kind
of patriotism in California.”
I was so proud to hear that
statement, I wanted to share it
with you. This is one of many
reasons we live in rural Amer-
ica and do business in Hermis-
ton. A proud patriotic commu-
nity that shares our same values
is why we specifi cally choose
the Hermiston community and
do business here. Therefore, I
wanted to share that your patri-
otism is recognized by others
as they visit. It is an act all of
Hermiston can be proud of.
This is one many demonstra-
tions by the community which
we at John L. Scott Real Estate
are so proud to be a part of
your/our community.

The city of Hermiston wants to build a skate park across
South First Street from the building housing Hermiston Police
Department and Umatilla County Fire District.
Skate park plans delayed
HERMISTON HERALD
Parks and recreation
director Larry Fetter had
hoped to build a skate park
in Hermiston next year, but
the project will be delayed
at least a year after the city
failed to get a grant that
would have funded the fi rst
phase of the project.
“It’s a big disappoint-
ment,” Fetter said.
He said the city is still
committed to creating the
“teen adventure park,”
which includes a skate park
in the fi rst phase and a sec-
ond phase that would add
a BMX bike track, parkour
station, climbing rock and
more. It will be located on
South First Place across the
street from the police station
and fi re station.
The original plan was to
use a $250,000 grant from
state lottery funds to build
the fi rst phase next spring,
then win a second grant
next year to build the sec-
ond phase. Now, the city
will have to look for alter-
nate funding sources.
Fetter said there are two
grants he can apply for next
spring that could be used
as matching dollars against
each other. If the city gets
those grants, it could start
construction of the teen
adventure park during the
fall of 2020. Fetter said
depending on funding, both
phases may be built at the
same time.
