Community celebrations spark Fourth of July fun

Parades, park activities
and fi reworks are planned
in area towns to celebrate
the Fourth of July. Many
events feature full day festi-
vals. The Walla Walla Veter-
ans Administration Medical
Center is offering an alterna-
tive to noisy fi reworks with
a free movie night.

Summer reading program starts
The summer reading program is underway at the Herm-
iston Public Library.
Both youths and adults can register on the Beanstalk ser-
vice through the library. People can access Beanstalk on the
library’s website or download the app to their cell phone.
Participants can earn badges for logging their reading and
other activities. The program runs through July 25.

Summer Choir wants singers
The Hermiston Summer Choir is seeking voices.
Community members 14 and older who enjoy singing are
invited to participate. No auditions are required.
The group will begin rehearsals July 15 on Mondays and
Wednesdays from 6:30-8:30 p.m., preparing for a perfor-
mance Sunday, Aug. 4 at 4 p.m. at the Hermiston Commu-
nity Center, 415 S. Highway 395.
People interested need to register as soon as possible. The
fee ranges from $15-$19. For more information or to register,

Boardman sets cleanup month
The city of Boardman is sponsoring a community-wide
cleanup during the month of July.
Residents can obtain garbage vouchers with a $50 limit.
They are valid during the month of July at Finley Butte
Landfi ll and the North Morrow Transfer Station.
City residents can pick up vouchers at Boardman City
Hall, 200 City Center Circle. For more information, contact

Campus Life collects cans, bottles
The Hermiston Campus Life has an ongoing bottle and
can drive.
People are invited to drop recyclable cans and bottles off
at the trailer at the Campus Life building, 595 S. First St.,
Hermiston. Money collected from the donations will be used
to help student leaders go to camp. To arrange a pick-up of
donated cans and bottles, call or text 541-969-1017.

The Willow Creek Farmers Market will resume its sea-
son Friday, July 5.
Vendors will offer produce, baked goods, plants, jams and
a variety of handmade and artisan items. Others interested in
setting up a booth to sell items can pay the vendor fee of $25
for the summer for adults and $10 for school-aged children.
The market is each Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hep-
pner City Park on Main Street. It will run weekly through

HHS class of ‘69 plans reunion
Members of the Hermiston High School class of 1969 are
encouraged to spread the word about plans for their upcom-
ing 50-year reunion.
The event is set for Sept. 27-28. Activities include a Fri-
day meet-and-greet, a Saturday breakfast and tour of East-
ern Oregon Trade and Event Center, and an evening meal.

Farm Bureau seeks photos
The Oregon Farm Bureau is looking for pictures featur-
ing all aspects of Oregon agriculture for its 2020 Oregon’s
Bounty Calendar. Photos can show products, people, pro-
duction, landscape — anything that depicts the beauty, tech-
nology, culture or tradition of family farming and ranching
in Oregon. The deadline for photo submissions is Sunday,
