At “Futures Week,” Hermiston High School students got to
see what life might look like after high school.
Each day last week focused on a different aspect of college
or career goals. On Thursday, students were encouraged to dress
up in the attire of their ideal career. At lunch, there was a career
fair, with local businesses setting up booths and helping stu-
dents fi ll out applications for summer jobs. Earlier in the week
there was a career panel, with speakers including a nurse, a cos-
metologist, a fi refi ghter, and a professor at Blue Mountain Com-
munity College. On Friday, career counselors were available to
help students with fi nancial aid and scholarships during lunch.
Genesis Sanchez, a senior, said she appreciated the help,
especially as she gets closer to the end of high school. She said
she has gone through a few career options, but now plans to
study to be a dental hygienist.
“My plan is to sign up for as many scholarships as I can, go
to BMCC, and then hopefully transfer to Washington State Uni-
versity,” she said.
