ermiston was well-represented at the League of Oregon Cities’ annual
“City Day at the Capitol” on Thursday.
Mayors, city councilors and city managers from across the state gath-
ered in Salem to network with each other and to meet with state law-
makers. The annual gathering at the start of the legislative session allows cities to
advocate for their own priorities, as well as priorities voted on by the entire League
of Oregon Cities membership.
This year’s LOC legislative priorities are investment in mental health, revenue
reform and cost containment, housing, infrastructure fi nancing, protection of city

right-of-ways and protection of third-party building inspections.
Roy Barron, Hermiston’s newest city councilor, said during Monday’s city
council meeting that he was thrilled to have an opportunity to travel down to Salem
with Rod Hardin (Hermiston’s longest-serving councilor), Mayor David Drotz-
mann (who also sits on the LOC board of directors) and city manager Byron Smith.
“They have a wealth of experience, and you have a lot of people working very
hard to represent our community at the state level,” Barron told the audience.
Hardin said it is important for cities to remind legislators in Salem that “one size
does not fi t all” when it comes to laws concerning cities big and small.
