Wayne Clifford Harris
was born February 24, 1921,
in Vale, Oregon, the son of
Roy and Fannie (Haw) Har-
ris. He passed away on Sun-
day July 8, 2018, in
Hermiston at the age
of 97.
Wayne lived in
Vale throughout his
childhood where he
graduated from high
school in the class
of 1940. After high Harris
school, he joined the
Civilian Conserva-
tion Corps and served
in Kimberly, Oregon.
He worked for Boe-
ing Aircraft for a
short time before he
joined the Navy Sea-
bees in 1943. He was
stationed in Guam
during World War
II where he served
until 1946.
After the war,
Wayne returned to Ore-
gon where he worked at
the Umatilla Army Depot.
While working at the depot
he met Jeanne Moore-Car-
ter and the couple were
united in marriage on May
15, 1946. He then moved
to Denver, Colo., where
he attended watchmaking
school until 1948. He then
returned to Eastern Oregon
and worked for Gillham’s
Jeweler in Hermiston for
several years. In 1963, he
took a job as a mail carrier
for the U.S. Postal service
in Hermiston. He and his
dog Lady walked the route
together for many years. He
later worked as a customer
service clerk in the Hermis-
ton Post Office until retiring
in 1985.
Wayne was a 47-year
member of the Hermis-
ton Elks Lodge #1845, was
nominated Elk of the Year in
1993 and 2002 and served
as a chaplain for many
years. He volunteered for
30 years at the Meadowood
Golf Tournament where he
watched for a hole in one.
He also volunteered
for Meals on Wheels
and at the Hermis-
ton Senior Center.
He enjoyed making
his own wine, was a
HAM radio operator
and repaired watches
and clocks for many
years.
He was preceded
in death by his par-
ents; wife Jeanne in
2004; stepson Roy
W. Carter in 2002;
and two sisters,
Helen and Lois.
He is survived by
daughter Julia Har-
ris Rosner of Herm-
iston; stepdaughter
Carol Carter Obert
of Wood Village,
Ore.; brother Donald Har-
ris of Eugene; grandchil-
dren Angela Rosner East-
wood of Grand Island,
Neb., Jeff Rosner of Lake
Forest, Calif., Misty Ros-
ner Ritzel of Palm Bay,
Fla., Nick Obert of Wood
Village, Ore., Julia Obert
Chambers of Gresham,
Ore., and Elizabeth Obert
Estey of Colton, Ore.; eight
great-grandchildren,
and
one great-great-grandchild.
A funeral service will

day, July 14, 2018, at Burns

Sijifredo R. “Fred” Flores
was born on August 7, 1950,
in La Villa, Texas, to par-
ents Pedro Flores and Ade-
laida Reyes. He died on July
1, 2018, at his home
in Irrigon, Oregon, at
the age of 67 years.
Fred was raised
in Texas and mar-
ried Angelica Cantu
on June 22, 1969,
in Edinburg, Texas.
They lived in Idaho Flores
and
Washington
before settling in Irrigon,
Oregon, in 1983 where he
has lived since.
Fred was a truck driver,
transporting
agricultural
crops for many years. He
enjoyed fishing, traveling,
cooking, watching western
movies, yard work and gar-
dening. Fred was always
there to help others, whether
it was working on a proj-
ect or just listening to any-
one needing someone to talk
with.
He is survived by his
wife, Angie Flores; children
Sijifredo Jr., Rudy, Gabriel,
Israel, Efrain, Araceli, Jose
and Adalberto; stepchildren
Esmeralda Leon and Fran-
cisco Torres; sisters Dom-
inga Sandoval, Yolanda Her-
nandez and Hilda Barrera;
brother Desiderio Flores;
numerous grandchil-
dren, aunts, uncles,
nieces, nephews and
cousins; and one
great-grandson.
Fred was preceded
in death by his par-
ents; two daughters,
Chriselda and Mel-
lissa Flores; brothers
Pablo, Pedro Jr., Juan and
David; and a sister, Elva.

Florence M. Stewart,
87, passed away Novem-
ber 25, 2017, in Vancouver,
Washington.
Florence was born in
Artesia, California,
on January 13, 1930,
to Clair and Princess
Olson. The family
survived the major
earthquake in Long
Beach, California, in
March 1933 and Flor-
ence had a lifelong Stewart
fear of earthquakes.
In 1935 the family moved to
Oregon, eventually settling
in Sisters, Oregon.
Florence was graduated
from Columbia Adventist
Academy in Battle Ground,
Washington, in 1947 and
enrolled at Walla Walla Col-
lege in the fall of 1948. Flor-
ence married Sydney E.
Stewart on August 28, 1949,
in Sisters, Oregon. After
Sydney graduated from col-
lege, they lived in Oregon
and California.
During the early years
of marriage and while their
daughters were young, Flor-
ence devoted herself to her
family as a loving wife,
mother, and homemaker.
After her daughters started
school, Florence worked in
school principals’ offices.
Sydney and Florence
moved to Pendleton, Ore-
gon, in 1980 and Florence
worked for almost 20 years
in the medical office of Dr.
Chris
Lundquist.
After
retirement,
Sydney and Flor-
ence moved to Col-
lege Place, Washing-
ton. Florence moved
to Vancouver, Wash-
ington, in April 2016.
Florence was a mem-
ber of the College
Place Village Seventh-day
Adventist Church.
Florence is survived
by three daughters, Cindy
Stewart, Debbie Stewart and
Shari (Allan) Thompson;
one grandchild, Micheline
Thompson; and nieces and
nephews. She was preceded
in death by both parents and
her husband.
A graveside service will
be at 10 a.m. on Sunday,
July 15, at Mount Hope
Cemetery in College Place,
Washington.

TUESDAY, JULY 3
1:20 p.m. — A caller came to
the Hermiston Police Department
saying he believed his windshield
was shot as he was driving on I-84
to Portland. He said there were no
cars around when this took place.
WEDNESDAY, JULY 4
8:31 a.m. — Police recorded a
stalking complaint at West Stan-
dard Avenue, Hermiston.
5:59 p.m. — On Southeast Third
Street, a caller reported that his
brother, who is on drugs, came
over to confront him and it esca-
lated. He said his brother brought a
mob to the apartment.
THURSDAY, JULY 5
12:15 p.m. — A domestic distur-
bance took place at Northeast 10th
Street, Hermiston. A two-year old
child was present.
2 p.m. — A caller at West
Orchard and Southwest 11th said a
man threw rocks at her and her kids
and broke her window while she
was driving the previous night.
11:04 p.m. — A caller said she
hit a dog in her work van on South
First Street and East McKinney Ave-
nue. She was headed southbound.
FRIDAY, JULY 6
12:06 p.m. — On Southwest
Shea Drive, a caller said he was
woken up by his dog going crazy.
He went outside and found his
garage door open with a teen-
age boy standing there. The caller
said the boy said he was dizzy and
didn’t know where he was. He said
he took the boy outside and told
him to wait a minute, and when he
returned the boy was gone. He said
nothing seemed to be missing from
the garage.
3:36 p.m. — A suicidal subject
was reported at Northwest Logan
Drive, Hermiston.
11:41 p.m. — A male subject was
just assaulted on Southwest Eighth
Street and West Pheasant Lane.
11:44 p.m. — An armed subject
left a party in a car on East Main
Street, Hermiston.
SATURDAY, JULY 7
9:34 a.m. — A caller reported
that the blue or tan house on East
Juniper Avenue has had 50 to 60
cars coming and going in and out
of it this morning.
8:23 p.m. — A caller at North-
west Third Street reported domes-
tic violence.
SUNDAY, JULY 8
11:41 p.m. — A missing person
was reported at West Park Avenue,
Hermiston.
MONDAY, JULY 9
8:56 a.m. — A caller reported a
transient sitting on a sleeping bag
right on the edge of the street. The
caller was worried he would get
run over by a semi truck.
2:33 p.m. — A suicidal subject
was reported at Northeast Misty
