Springtime at Lovin’ Spadefuls
lowers and vegetables are
beginning to poke through
the soil at Lovin’ Spadefuls
Community Garden in Hermiston,
but there are still 20 plots left for
interested community members. The
60-plot garden is off Elm Avenue
behind Good Shepherd Medical
Center, which recently helped with
landscaping and fencing around the
garden.
“It changed the whole dynamic
of the garden space, and makes it
more user-friendly,” organizer Chelle
Hankinson said.
The plots are $10 per season and
are irrigated by an automatic sprinkler
system. Rakes and other tools are
available for use, and the Oregon
Food Bank has donated seeds.
To request a plot, visit Umatilla-
Morrow Head Start at 110 NE Fourth
St. in Hermiston.
