Bulldog baseball
splits Saturday
doubleheader
HERMISTON HERALD
HERMISTON — Both
games of Saturday’s double-
header between Hermiston
and The Dalles were decided
in the seventh inning, with
Hermiston taking the first
7-6 and The Dalles winning
the second 7-6.
In the opener the Bull-
dogs (6-11 overall, 2-3
Columbia River Confer-
ence) trailed 6-4 as they
came to bat in the bottom
of the seventh and the rally
began. A bases-loaded walk
by Andrew James and a
fielding error by The Dalles
brought in three runs to tie
the game at 6-6. Later in the
frame, Jordan Ramirez was
hit by a pitch with the bases
loaded, which brought in
the winning run.
In the second game, a
two-RBI triple off the bat of
Wyatt Noland helped Herm-
iston to a 6-5 lead after six
complete innings. However,
in the top of the seventh
with Ramirez in to pitch,
The Dalles hit a leadoff dou-
ble and a single followed
by two Hermiston errors,
which allowed the River-
hawks (4-12, 1-4) to take a
7-6 lead.
Noland had a great day
batting, going a combined
5-for-8 with a double and a
triple and four RBI.
The Bulldogs were com-
ing off a tough Tuesday
matchup against Hood River
Valley, where Hermiston fell
10-6 despite a four-run rally
in the seventh.
The Eagles got up early
scoring six runs in the first
two innings. Hermiston
wasn’t able to get on the
board until the third when
Garron Anderson hit a two-
RBI single to cut the deficit
to 6-2.
The Eagles (9-9, 3-2)
slowly added to their lead
over the fourth, fifth and
sixth inning while keeping
the Bulldogs scoreless.
It wasn’t until the top of
the seventh that Hermiston
finally made a dent. The four
runs were highlighted by
Anderson, who again added
to Hermiston’s total with a
two-RBI single.
While Anderson brought
in four of the six runs, it was
Jordan Ramirez who had
a perfect day at the plate.
Ramirez went 4-for-4 and
scored twice in the outing.
Andrew James took the
loss for Hermiston after 3
1/3 innings toeing the rub-
ber. James surrendered eight
runs on eight hits, struck out
four and walked two.
BMCC in baseball playoff hunt
PENDLETON — Herm-
iston graduate Nychal Gritz
and the Blue Mountain Com-
munity College Timber-
wolves overcame a rocky
start Saturday to take the
first game of a doubleheader
13-11, and after losing the
second 2-1 to the Wenatchee
Knights the team is four
games out of the second
playoff spot with 12 to play.
In the first game, the
Knights (20-14, 7-9) jumped
on Gritz for five runs in
the first two innings. Gritz
was peppered for six hits
and three walks to start. He
threw six innings total, but
over his final four innings
he allowed only one hit and
struck out six. For the game,
Gritz finished with a sea-
son-high nine strikeouts.
In the ninth, the Knights
loaded the bases with two
outs against BMCC closer
Nate
Keough,
though
Keough escaped with a pop
fly out to clinch the win.

Softball sweeps league doubleheader
Wins put
Hermiston in
second place
HERMISTON HERALD
HERMISTON — A big
day from Bailee Noland
helped the Hermiston Bull-
dogs to a doubleheader
sweep of The Dalles 7-6 and
15-5 on Saturday afternoon.
Hermiston was coming
off its very first shutout of
the season, falling to Hood
River Valley 8-0 Thursday.
But the efforts of Noland
on offense and in the circle
helped push the Bulldogs
(10-5 overall, 3-2 Columbia
River Conference) to over
.500 in league play.
Noland tallied five hits,
two of which were home
runs, and earned the win in
the circle in Game 1 after
throwing seven innings with
four strikeouts and six runs
allowed. She also scored
the game-winning run in the
first outing, breaking from
third on a passed ball to
complete the two-run rally
to win the game.
Sydney Stefani tallied
six hits out of the lead-
off spot in the Bulldogs’
order and Janelle Almaguer
earned the win in Game 2
with a five-inning outing
and added four hits and four
RBI as a hitter.
