A
s the Hermiston Walmart Distribution Center celebrated its 20th
anniversary on Tuesday, speakers at the event highlighted the
company’s contributions to the community, including employing
1,100 people at the distribution center alone. When the center opened in
1998, Hermiston had a population of 11,595. Today it has a population
of 17,985 thanks in part to jobs brought in by the facility. Here are some
other examples of Walmart’s influence on the community throughout
the last 20 years.

About 125 trailers are unloaded and 125 loaded each day that the facility.
2017
CRYPTOQUIP
Hermiston Walmart Supercenter store manager Erik Smith shows the new
electronics section of the recently remodeled store after a grand reopening
celebration. The upgrades were “quite an overhaul,” he said, including new flooring, fixtures,
lighting and displays. The store is one of 106 the distribution center in Hermiston supplies.
2015
Walmart Heart truck drivers Dan Lohnes and Gordon Oldham present first-
grader Cassidy McQuain, who had a rare muscular disease, with an honorary
driver’s badge during an assembly in her honor at Irrigon’s AC Houghton School. The
Walmart Heart program helps children with chronic or terminal illnesses.
2004
An Agape House volunteer unloads household items donated by the Hermiston
Walmart Distribution Center, which donates a substantial amount of money and
in-kind donations each year to community organizations.
